yes, if it is in El Centro it would be easier..i work in el centro...i will take a look in the yellow pages here for it, but if it isnt there then you need to google search it and get me an address. Only cost you a Corona beer....jajajaj..or send me the phone number....have you tried it? does anyone answer?

ok, i was on that street on Friday night.....very very very busy street...it is the area which has almost all of the non-tourist clothing and shoes stores, with a few hostels and bars etc sprinkled in...it is real close to India Catalina which is the largest transit hub for people going to el centro and the surrounding barrios. not a real good place to bring a family if that is your thing. i would imagine on that street the hotel prices would be really cheap, but you get what you pay for.

when i get time i will see if i can locate that hotel and see if it might be the type infested with cockroaches...jajajja

ok, i went to the Hotel and looked inside. It is in the area i mentioned. Lots of traffic but in El Centro. If you stay in El Centro you will have to take a cab for a 5 minute trip to the beaches in Bocagrande and El Laguito. Further if you want other beaches like La Boquilla. Right now its hot and a little humid during the day but cools off a bit when the breeze kicks in, but May will be very humid, and the breeze diminishes.

The Artur II is on the second floor of a run down building, but almost all of the buildings are in the same shape. this is a historical area so everything is old. There is a very small lobby, with with a small hallway. Everything looked clean, but the room i looked at had 3 old twin size beds with clean sheets on it. The mattresses are minimal to say the least. The guy claimed to have AC in the room, but it turns out to be Central AC throughout the hotel, which is basically useless here in CTG. It was very hot inside these rooms and the lobby (i went at midday around 4 pm), so if the AC was actually on, you could not tell. Only one room seems to have a window in it. The rest are interior rooms, with no outside air or breeze.
The guy quoted 60K mil for AC, 40K mil without AC, and three people with AC is 80K mil.

its up to you where you want to stay, but i think there are better facilities available, but not sure in your price range. if you use the google search function on PBH and enter Cartagena hotels or hostels you might find some other places. Most of the hotels in El Centro are not cheap....the one behind my office is nice, clean, with AC, but it goes for 180K a night. If i get a chance to go eat at Plaza de Santo Domingo this week, there are two small hotels/hostels near there, so i will inquire about the accomodations. If you want, i can ask my neighbor at my apt about his apartment rentals in Cabrero and the cost per day, next to the walled city. Cabrero is in the opposite direction to the tourist barrios so it might be a little cheaper.

Let me know...

MC

btw, i am going to post this in your thread as well so anyone else can read my comments about the Arthur II.

I spoke to my neighbor this morning and she said she needs to know the exact dates for your stay. When you let me know the exact days you are talking about, i can get more specific information for you regarding the apartment.

i went to the Hostal Santo Domingo last night, and it looks like a family run business. The owner had his 2 8-10 year old daughters working with him at the lobby. The place looked really clean, well kept, and it is located about 1/2 block from the real popular tourist plaza called Plaza de Santo Domingo, next to the Porton de Santo Domingo restaurant, which is a really nice place to eat but $$$. The owner would not let me look into the rooms as they were all occupied (i went at 9 pm). But he gave me a link to a local website which promotes Cartagena tourism. there are some photos here (you can be the judge of the rooms but if they are anthing like the lobby they will be ok):

http://www.cartagenainfo.net/hotelsantodomingo/index.html

The website prices are higher, naturally, but i got the following prices over the phone:

92,700 2 beds with a Fan

102,700 with Air Conditioning

This includes the IVA tax (16%)

I think from your email you might stay either May XXX...let me know what you think. I dont think you will get much more decent place at that price, but i an not the expert at this field. And the Plaza de Santo Domingo is a good place to visit at night, as there are musicians, dancers, and artisans all gathered in the Plaza. There are several outdoor restaurants as well, which have gringo prices of course, but you can always eat where you want.

You sure it's not Hotel Artun?

If so, kind of basic, and also rents rooms by the hour.
