Today marks 20 years since the Armero tragedy, when the Nevado del Ruiz erupted and created a mudslide which killed over 20,000 during the night. I drove past there in 2001, and you would never think that a whole city used to be there -- there are just a couple of buildings in ruins, with overgrown vegetation (which if you obsererve closely, are actually the upper storeys). The whole place has an eerie sensation.
El Tiempo and the BBC have coverage of it today.
