Armenia

Does anyone have any tips about the city of Armenia?
Also is it really safe for a single female to live in Colombia? I am moving down there and trying to ease my family and their worries.

Live or Visit? I was in Armenia about a month ago and the surrounding villages. I have been to all coffee-region cities, Medellin, live in Bogota, been in B/manga, Santa Marta, and Cartagena. My perception and from what have heard, Armenia is pretty safe. I did not spend a lot of time in the city itself, though, rather the pueblos (Circasia, Montenegro, Calarca, Salento, etc.). I would say Quindio is one of the if not these most convenient departments due to all villages being less than an hour from Armenia, the capital, plus you have Cali 3 hours away, Pereira 1 hour, and Manizales 2 hr. and change. You also have a lot of tourist sites like Panaca (didn't go), the Coffee Park (excellent), pretty architectural sites like Salento, and the Quindio Botanical Garden/Butterfly Display in Calarca.

Nice pic art (hope you also go by art)

Armenia is for the most part, safe. Only safer place I lived in was Leticia, but that involved wet feet everyday.

If you are moving here because you will be working at Gimnasio Ingles, don't fret. You'll be picked up and dropped off everyday at your doorstep, most of the teachers I know there never see anyplace where they'd get their hands dirty anyway. If you aren't, then don't worry as well. Things do happen (nice shootout around the corner from my apt last week - 1 dead, estrato 5 ) but they aren't the usual. Send me a private message from my contact page if you want and we'll chat....

Oh, since you'll be living here.... Save the boring touristy crap like the coffee park and Panaca for when your parents visit. Hit some local farms and really enjoy yourself (not the ones with pools for cyring out loud).
