Dicen las malas lenguas que...
According to what I hear 2012 is the end of the Mayan calendar.
Are Colombians tuned into this and what is being planned?
Do Colombians respect the Mayan prophecies?
What do Colombians think will happen in 2012?

platano says on Apr 20, 2005, 10:04: Rash9000, It depends on what happens in 2012. If Colombia as a country ends then there may be some concern about Colombians. Read the forum topic again. It is about Colombians, not Mayans.

platano says on Apr 20, 2005, 13:21: GIB, I agree with you that some brutal economic changes are on the horizon. World has reached "peak oil" and as oil production declines the countries more dependent on oil will have a rough time. Colombia will be better off than USA for example. Not to mention that Colombia does not have a group of people like Al Qaeda out to launch a nuclear attack on it. This is a definite advantage for Colombia.

|
platano says on Apr 20, 2005, 20:45: GIB, I just hope Colombia doesn't get into a lopsided trade imbalance with China or allow China to finance Colombia's national debt. I certainly hope Walmart does not arrive in Colombia. Colombia needs to maintain its economic independence and not allow itself to come under Chinese political influence. You are in a very good position in Bogora.

lpdiver says on Apr 21, 2005, 03:44: The world is not dependant on petroleum in the long run. we simply have the infrastructure in place to utilize it at this time. When the cost displaces petroleum alternatives will pop up and become utile. There is no shortage of petroleum. There is however a shortage of refineries and noone is ready to invest half a billion dollars to build one. "cook some rice!" 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

lpdiver says on Apr 21, 2005, 09:45: Exactly what I was refering to Mike. Biodiesel. I just thought it would be neat to combine a chincharrones factory and use all the product. And yes I know pig fat is not WVO! But, it works just as well. I can just ablut meet my annual fuel needs here in cajun land just from the waste peanut oil from frying turkeys during the holiday season. "cook some rice!" 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

Sliver says on May 5, 2005, 06:28: huh? There's a lil' more to this... Well, first off: Not only the Bible Code and the Mayan Calendar see 2012 as the final date (of all dates, by the way...), but also ancient Chinese religion points out that in 2012, something BIG happens... what exactly, no one knows... but these are the scenarios that are plausible so far (and trust me, that stuff is plausible... I spend about 4 years now researching that stuff, and so far no one could disprove any of that stuff... see for yourself).

Sliver says on May 5, 2005, 06:32: and about that taiwan plan... ... and so what if the Russians and Chinese tried/planned to invade Taiwan? Even though that may be an evil plan, we might one day find out that their rule (at least Chinas) would end if they would not resort to violence that often (remember Tien an men? Same thing, Mao would have to leave office if he hadn't used violence).

I still think H2 is probably the most environmentally safe fuel and relatively easy to manufacture, but at any rate, I'd have to agree that kicking the petroleum habit is the best thing that could ever happen to this society and the planet.

N2Aquatix says on May 5, 2005, 11:43: Casinos Yes, I've spent so much time in casinos that they really don't hold my interest anymore. It will be interesting however to see what my novia thinks of them. I can usually get them to comp me a room just for visiting. I can of course absolutely kill them on free drinks just by sitting at the video bar for a couple of hours. There is a good possibility that my girl won't find it interesting at all. She's very practical and might view it as a colossal waste of time and money. I guess we'll have to see. ;)

platano says on May 5, 2005, 18:45: It is not the end of the world, it is the end of the calendar... And some interpret it as the end of a process of acceleration of evolving consciousness until 2012, when we will transform into peaceful beings. What this means on a practical day-to-day level is that the FARC and AUC and FAC will all be working together toward improving the paradise that Colombia is. "La pobreza absoluta" will be no more. There will be an ecological consciousness that will preserve Colombia as a paradise for generations to come.

platano says on May 5, 2005, 18:55: Well, Mario, if it's important to you... you can be right, too! You are correct. Most people interpret it as the end of the world. My interpretation is a minority view.

spigrimace says on May 10, 2005, 20:30: I usually don´t believe in these things but.. After being in Tikal, Guatamala and seeing how advanced that culture was and seeing literally the writing on the wall that 2012 will be the end of the world really didn´t bother me, but then some mathemeticians found almost indesputable statistically, the code of the tora, and it also says that 2012 is the end of the world. That freaks me out a bit and makes me nervous.
