ApartStudio Information out there????

Hey everyone... I am looking to see if anyone IN Medellin now, or with firsthand experience, knows of any apartstudios (all services included) in a decent area.

I will be moving down for three months in June for school, and want to go down in a few weeks to check out some housing options - so would like to have contacts and appointments set up first.

I am looking for non-gringo-advertised, non-high-priced apartstudios...not all the $1,000/mo or more apartments listed on here.

If anyone has information handy on some of them it would be greatly appreciated!

Apartment in Medellin, Patio Bonito, El Poblado Hi: I spent 4 months in Medellin and found a great Apartment in a great area across the street from Exito Poblado, great access to transportation, and close to everything. The person who rents the apartments was highly recommended by the Hospital San Vicente de Paul, where I was for a kidney transplant. The apartment was a two bedroom, 2 bathroom, kitchen, dining room, living room, a balcony and fully furnished (kitchen stuff, linens, dinner plates, glasses etc and a washing machine. It was only $450.00 a month, which I found a great deal. I cannot remember whether or not the utilities were included, (I know cable TV was not)but nevertheless I thought it was a bargain, because of the location, the safety, and cleaningless of the area. If you are interested, the name of the person is Diana Restrepo and her phone no. in Medellin is 011574-268-9814, fax no. 011574-352-1433

Good luck!

Cheers

Hi Bradyvicky,
I just rented Hi Bradyvicky,

I just rented an apartastudio (Here for 6 months+) that I found through a real estate agent that I met randomly last year during my first visit. It is a few blocks up hill from the Exito Poblado mentioned above - Patio Bonito area. 10-story building (On the 4th floor with good views), 6 months old or so. My unit is about 600 square feet / 56 square meters. Very open design.

I will be posting some photos soon - stylish furnishings!
Price 1.4 mln pesos - all included. US$645 / month. Cable TV, Cable Internet included. If I bargained harder maybe I could have got it for $50-$100 less. I'm happy with the place.

Hard to find You are not going to find a great deal unless you are really, really lucky.

Non-gringo advertised, fine, except you probably don't speak much Spanish so you are going to need an intermediary or deal with an agency that speaks English. They are going to put a high margin on you, just as much as the gringo is asking or more.

You won't have a Colombian ID card when you arrive, nor a co-signor. So you won't be able to sign a proper rental contract.

Basically you will be dealing with furnished apartments only, which is a high end service. Or else sublets through personal contacts.

If you are only looking in Estrato 6 areas (Poblado etc), you will need to accept paying a decent whack of money for a place in a nice neighbourhood and the convenience.

Cost of living is cheaper in Colombia, but that doesn't not necessarily apply to estrato 6 apartments. They are more expensive than you would think.

que nota!

Circusoflife & Pedro... Circusoflife - thanks for all the info and the chat over email. Look forward to a few beers with ya sometime!

Pedro - yes, the more I learn about Medellin the more I am seeing that. I am used to living in Barrio Boston in Barranquilla, which is one of the best areas, but still staying reasonable on accomodations. Because I do speak reasonable Spanish, have a spouse Visa for Colombia and a Costena wife with some credit it really wouldnt be a problem to land something non-all-incclusive, however I was just searching to see if anyone has any personal references or info like Circus provided me in email. The internet is bogged down with the same 10-15 sites and apartments all the time, and from a distance it is hard to find out about the local stuff - stuff you only know about by walking around or having personal contact. Pedro, if someone chose not to live in Poblado, what would you say are some of the better areas? I have been advised for the most part to stick with Zonas 2 & 3...preferably Poblado, Envigado, Las Palmas, Conquistadores, Laureles - my schooling will be in Conquistadores and I dont have any need to LIVE within the nightlife/hilife area as this is not a "vacation" for me. One place I am looking at is in the La Floresta - Estadio area, just a few streets away from the La Floresta Metro station.

Medellin, what a city!!! I envy you both bradyvicky and Circusoflife. How I would love to be living in Medello. I am US born, from Colombian born parents. I made my first trip to Medellin about 1 year and a half ago and was very impressed with the city. What I would give to live at least 6 months there. I don't believe there is any other city in Colombia that has that same feel....

Not sure yet, but.... I am hoping Medellin is all it is advertised as!

I have heard so many good things, and finally have put myself in a situation where I can be an absentee business owner and pursue a fun little life on the side...living in Colombia and not just milking my previous 6-month passport allowances!

I would suggest you do it first chance you get I.M!!!
