Dodger I know a guy who rents out his apartment allot in Rodarero. His name is Bill. He just moved there recently. He will likely go to the US for 6 months or a year once his wife gets her Visa. I am planning on a trip there myself in about 3 months. I am looking for a nice place to retire. I heard the Santa Marta area is not bad especially because more people there speak English. I am not good at Spanish so I thought it might be a good place to check out.

More people there speak english? I did not find that to be true, it was just like any other city in colombia. Why would they speak more english there?

Well I was under the impression that because there were more tourists more Colombian there spoke English. I was obviously wrong. Nice about PBH is that you can learn so much.

i found santa marta to exhibit the same amount of english spoken population as most other parts of Colombia - very little.

living in santa marta full time could pose risks of possible extorcion if one is not careful.

santa marta is by far one of the most beautiful areas of Colombia i have seen thus far.
