AOS Interview in Portland... good!

Hello everyone

We had our AOS interview today and it went really well.

We arrived at 9:40 for our 10:15 appointment. At 10:15 the interviewer took us to his office and there he made us swear we weren't going to say lies.

He asked us:

- How we met
- How was the wedding
- Dates of the wedding
- If I had been out of the country since the wedding.
- If I didn't belong to the comunist party, etc etc.

Then he said... Ok Mrs Tanner you are now a Permanent Resident with conditions (or something like that). He stamped my passport and say I'll receive my card within the next 10 days.

And that's it... :)

Thanks for the advicing!

Silvia

Congrats to you! :)

Sounds like our meeting, only they didn't stamp her passport. I'd read that sometimes they do and sometimes they don't. I don't know what difference it makes, if any. The "green card" is what counts from now on.

Bienvenidos, de nuevo!

yeah I didn't hear about the passport stamping before honestly. Did they take her EAD away?

Anyway you are right... what matters is that green card coming in the mail (and that the paperwork is over for a while!!!!!!).

We must go visit you so we can all celebrate. Maybe we'll do it next week after my finals for this quarter. We were planning on going to the beach but nothing is decided yet and I really want to visit Seattle (and see you guys)

I'll let you know.

thanks for your congratulations divina!

The reason for the I-551 stamp in the passport is to be able to prove you are a green card holder until the green card itself shows up. In my wife's case, the green card did not show up until 2 months after the interview.

Disclaimer: any comment I make is inane and is not to be taken seriously, and is so patently ridiculous that no one should take it seriously, even as an insult.

thanks for the info utc yeah the guy said the stamp is valid for 2 months so if it takes as long as it took for your wife then we're all set.

So how come some people gets it and others don't?

I don't know. Theoretically everyone is entitled to the stamp (if they are approved) but I think they just forget to do it sometimes.

Its sporadic. from reading many details on Visa Journey it seems that some offices stamp the passports and some don't; some will do it if you ask for it others will not even when asked. I have also read of several people getting an infopass appointment and getting the stamp, when the Green card didn't arrive and they needed the stamp to travel or for employment. For some of us it really doesn't make a difference. I had a stamp in my passport and then it expired and I got a new passport and never even thought about the stamp - I used the Green card for reentry.

Hey silvia I had to change my login name because I was being stalked by some jealous person.... you and I have chatted before on other discussions here in the "All About Visas" forum...... I was the one asking questions about college credits from Colombia to here and about my fiance volunteering while he waited for his EAD...... I would say my old login but they can search and find it easily.... it sucks but what I have to do so no one knows my business!

Congratulations on your AOS!!!!!!!!! That is GREAT news and such an inspiration!!!!!! I'm still waiting for my NOA2 or RFE (LOL) if they decide what I sent was not enough info..... so keep in touch.....

that sucks That someone was making it hard enough for you so you had to change your name... ahhh people!

Be positive divina, there aren't any RFEs on the way... just a good and fast NOA2.

JMoon that's lucky... It's probably easier to deal with homesickness if you can go and get a bandejita paisa anytime you want ;). I am familiar with the area because my dad leaves very close by (Clearwater). It's very very pretty.

Ok guys I send hugs (my head hurts for too much sake last night :( )
