Anything and Everything Wedding!

As i have mentioned - i am getting married to my Colombian Fiance, in Australia, in 3 months. I would like to combine Colombian and Australian wedding traditions.
I am looking for traditional Colombian ideas mainly for the ceremony.

- Vows
- Readings
- Poems
- Promises
- Gifts
- Order of service
- Prayers

We would love to have our vows or a promise in spanish - something traditional.

I will pass along my standard Colombian wedding advice.

First, be careful about the "custom" where one of the lucky solteros gets to take the bride's garter off with his teeth. The guy could have been giving her a BJ.

Second, it is traditional to have a mariachi serenade the night before the wedding. You can usually arrange with a group before hand to play a certain number of songs for a certain price. Give them half up front and half when they finish playing.

Disclaimer: any comment I make is inane and is not to be taken seriously, and is so patently ridiculous that no one should take it seriously, even as an insult.

hmmmmm But if she was marrying u, and a guy tried to put his tongue there, wouldnt she slap him or something? If she let it continue then she shouldnt be marrying you!

weddings... i got married in colombia in dec of 2004. not sure about traditions, we got married in the church, at what looked like a regularly scheduled mass on a saturday (with everyone in the barrio there, it was sro). a couple of days before, the priest went over with us about, where to start, where to go and such. when it was time to kiss the bride, i guess the 3 second rule was in effect, since he was jokingly trying to seperate us. as far as traditions go, i was walked down the aisle by the person giving me away, to the front of the church, then she showed up at the back of the church. we then the 4 of us walk towards each other until we meet, then i give her her bouquet, and she gives me a flower for my lapel, and i give her a kiss on the cheek (as this was all she was supposed to be getting before the wedding. um, right). then we both walk to the front of the church, and the priest does his stuff. not too certain about tradition, but that's how ours went in small town colombia.

Remember those words. You may need them at the reception when some drunken fool is chewing on your wife's leg like a starving dog.

cowboy is right, this ridiculous custom does happen if you are not prepared for it. at a wedding the guys each gave up a shoe and they were all placed under the wedding dress. the bride pulled one shoe out and the owner of the shoe got on his knees like some hungry dog and pulled the garter off with his teeth, the groom almost decked the guy. remember that colombianos drink alot, whiskey especially so they will all be drunk by this point. guys will act stupid and think that they can do as they please.
i mentioned this to my fiance and she said that she would never let anyone get that close to her other than me, to which i said,"damn right noone will get that close"
be careful and ask before hand what to expect so there are no surprises.
