Anyone recommend a good lawyer in Miami? Need to claim against JJ Logistics

JJ Logistics in Miami are a complete mess. They claim not to have received over $5,000 worth of good that I sent to their offices for forwarding - even though I have proof of delivery via tracking nos.

They never answer the phone or respond to emails. Can anyone recommend a good but inexpensive lawyer in Miami that I can chase them?

Much appreciated.

Good but Inexpensive will be a tough find in our fair city! I doubt any good attorney will take such a case on consignment, be prepared to lay out at least $3,000 in advance. You may be farther ahead contacting the Miami Herlad's Newspaper's Action line or Help Me Howard, a consummer advocate in Miami Television. Both Freebies,,,Try googling them

Since they signed for the stuff, sounds like theft to me. Call the Miami police dept and file a criminal complaint.

I don't know what jurisdiction J and J Logistics is in. I would guess Miami or Hialeah??? But, whatever jurisdiction (you could call Miami Dade Sheriff), call them up, tell them your chit got stolen after being signed for. Report it as theft. Over $300 value in the state of Florida is a FELONY. They may be reluctant to take the report. But, insist and the State Attorney will have to at least look at the matter. I would say that is a good place to start. What happened to you ain't right.

I agree with Robert Jorge ,you will need to file a police report and get a police report number.
If nothing criminally is done than you take to small claims court (cost like $35 to file)where the limit is usually $5,000 and no lawyer required. But they will ask for the police report and your evidence ,also note that in small claims court that the burden of proof is less than in criminal court ,it is just more likely than not, so easy to prove your case and win a judgment against them.

This is kind-of off the subject - but if you ever have problems with cell phone companies or the telephone companies - file a complaint with the FCC. You will get an immediate response with a complete audit trail of documention both from the vendor (cell phone company/phone company) and the FCC. Larry

PoorBuyHappy, sorry for the delay in my response. This post is ABSOLUTELY NOT BULL I am disappointed in you jumping to conclusions just because I did not respond immediately after your post. I only just read about your response today through an alert on my email.

Basically, what has happened is that after another ten days $3,800 of the $5,000 arrived at my address in Colombia without any notification from JJ Logistics. A guy in a battered old Renault turned up at my address with tatty boxes. I still have $1,200 of goods missing - two shipments received by JJ Logistics via UPS and USPS have never been sent.

I checked with UPS and USPS and the senders of these goods regarding delivery and all of them confirm the delivery address as JJ Logistics and the fact that they have confirmation that they signed a delivery receipt. UPS provided me with the name of RAMIREZ as the recipient - JJ Logistics claim not have signed for this, even though they signed a delivery receipt for another item of mine on the same delivery truck. USPS do not keep records of who signed, just a confirmation of delivery - JJ Logistics claim never to have signed.

A friend of mine is very good friends with Juan Amortegui of Fast Dispatch, Inc. Juan knows one of the owners of JJL, Franscisco Restrepo, and went to talk to him in person and ask WTF is going on and why they refuse to respond to emails, phone calls, and the fact that I have proof of delivery. Francisco Restrepo became very unreasonable with Juan and told him to leave and that he would not provide any further responses on these packages. Apparently, the office of JJL is a complete mess with no record keeping or parcel tracking.

Even though the goods are worth $1,200 - I bought them for considerably less. I have the option to sue them, but given that I don't live in the US and would have to do things remotely I would rather accept the loss and look to make up the money again. Francisco and Pacho Restrepo do not have the best of reputations in Medellin and both know where I live.

If you have any doubts over this please call Francisco Restrepo at JJ Logistics on (305) 805-8300, or Juan Amortegui of Fast Dispatch on (305) 398-3607

MY ADVICE - if you are you are looking for fast, courteous, and honest service - DON'T USE JJL.

Regards.

actually medefockin i simply wanted you to respond and it appeared my ploy worked. no hard feelings but i really needed you to answer because i had already shipped items to them just prior to your original post and after reading it i became concerned. the second shipment i need to send them has a value of almost $10,000 USD so you can see why it was important I know about the final results of your situation. again sorry to have ruffled your feathers.

PBH, these guys are cheap and OK until something goes wrong. They do not respond to emails or calls and to make matters worse they do not have any kind of tracking system. From what I understand they also subcontract to another Colombian-owned Miami-Colombia shipping company based in San Juan. The items get delivered to a MARIA EUGENIA RESTREPO, part of the Restrepo clan and she will then get one of her family to call you and they will deliver in an uninsured private vehicle.

My advice is to use Mundo Transport Express. They ship direct daily to Cali. Items are then delivered to you through TCC with a tracking no and insurance. Very nice guys who respond to all your messages and calls. They're also always online through MSN messenger and will keep you up to date on package progress. Speak to Claudia Arango on 305-803-7786 and tell her that here favourite English client from Medellin sent you!

Best wishes and good luck.

thanks.. I actually met with Rafael Restrepo yesterday here in Medellin. He seemed like an upstanding guy and really wants to help me. He's even volunteered to go to the airport with me next week to pick up the first load of my things. I appreciate your advice and will be guided accordingly. thanks again!

PBH - I hope that all goes well with your shipment. I will obviously never use them again, because apart from Francisco being extremely rude I feel very unsure about their whole shipping process. I feel grateful that at least some of my stuff actually arrived. They have no tracking system and don't understand IT. I am also extremely concerned that they way in which they operate effectively leaves no way for recourse. Items are sent in the name of MARIA EUGENIA RESTREPO and she is the legal recipient of the goods until she decides to call to arrange delivery via some member of her extended family.

I know which intermediary courier company they use - they are based in San Juan. They will not answer any questions about packages because they are not sent in your name - they only respond to JJ and tell me that they receive a mountain of complaints about them every week.

If you want any references on their lack of professionalism, please call the directors of FAST and Mundo Transport Express. Both of them found JJ to be an utter mess and very rude.

medefockinllin says on Jul 10, 2009, 17:53:

El Sapo - the tracking system can still be used. The freight company receives a tracking no from the airline for their bulk shipments. Once in Colombia, the bulk shipments are separated for delivery to individual addresses and each one is sent by a reputable company like TCC, who have insurance against loss or damage. The end recipient receives a TCC tracking no. This is how it works with Mundo Transport Express.

JJ Logistics do not keep an inventory of anything that they send. They rely on you knowing what you sent. If they don't deliver the goods to you, you then have to prove that they received them for forwarding to Colombia.
