Anyone know know where to get a used bicycle in Bogota?

Or know of anyone that may have a mid range to cheap bike for sale?

Try the flea markets in the Centro Internacional takes over a parking lot alongside the Museo de Arte Moderno, on Sunday. Any where around Calle 24 to Calle 32, between Carreras 5 and 14,

You can get new, but inexpensive bikes on Calle 13, around Carrera 15 and 16. Just keep your eyes open while you´re there, or bring a friend with you if you can :) There´s also a Transmilenio stop right there, maybe the 2nd stop or so after Jimenez on one of the F lines.

If you do buy a bike keep the receipt. It
is my understanding that the police
spot check cyclists for ownership. If
you don't have a receipt it could be confiscated. Would someone correct me
if I'am in incorrect.

I have heard the same thing David, but I also can't tell you of one verifiable source where they actually had their bike taken by the police. People talk about it - but I have never seen or heard of it happening "for real". I wouldn't be surprised if it was a Colombian urband legend. Think about it: Do you think DAS is up to investigating every bicycle rider they see? 25% of them, 5% of them? And who the hell rides regularly with a reciept or title to a bike in their pocket?

The story sounds far fetched. I ha many
bikes stolen in Toronto and in the states.
its probably the same in most other
places. I keep the serial number on hand
and at home if it is ever needed.

I licensed my bike when I bought it. I've seen bike checks in Cartago. No license, by by bike to impound.

You can buy a fairly good bikes on calle 68 with 30. You´ll see a bridge from west to east, take it and there you go.

a.k. go to the thread above 'peter'. go to the end of the thread and GIB's comment on how he's to be burried....you might find an abandoned bike parked in the cheeks of his ass. and at that, it'ld be free.... the tire might stink awhile, but, shucks, it's colombia, lotsa things stink there.
