Anyone here been to Paipa?

We have reservations to stay in some hotel there in December. Anyone have any online photo albums or comments about the place?

One of my favorite places!! I only wish I had my fotos scanned for you... The times that I have been there, stayed at Casona Del Salitre, an old nun`s convent converted into a beautiful old hotel.. The hotel & grounds are georgeous, and historic.. Simon Bolivar slept there..and the staff is very attentive. Check it out..

I Also Recommend... the Casona Del Salitre. If you feel extravagant book the The Lenceros suite where Simon Bolivar once stayed. One of the pools is fed by a hot spring-the hot springs and th3e surrounding countryside is worth the trip.

As long as you are up that way why not go to Villa de Leyva? I recommend the Molino La Mesopotamia, a 440 year-old sugar cane mill converted into a hotel. Very romantic. The original mill stream still runs through the lounge/dining room. My wife will stay no place else when we go there-she loves it.

Gator, have you got any more info on that hotel? Web site maybe??
I was in Villa de Leyva in June and had heard of a hotel with the stream running through the lounge, I thought this sounded worth checking out but I did not know the name of the hotel.
So I ended up staying in hotel Marques de San Luis, which is also pretty nice and basic.
Cheers.

Paipa A very nice thing about Paipa are its thermal waters. Unfortunately I have experienced them only while staying ath the Hotel Sochagota (http://www.hotelsochagota.com/), so I don't know exactly what to do for other thermal baths nearby. But the ones at the sochagota are really nice. You can get a thermal pool in your room or cabin. The hotel is on the lake and has good horseback and bycicle riding. Because Boyacá is chilly at night the baths are especially nice.

Paipa or Cuba? Looks like we may go to Cuba instead. We found a 1 week all inclusive deal from any major city in Colombia roundtrip to Havana for $1050 per person. Price includes all meals, hotel and transportation 4 days in Havana and 3 days in Varadero. Anyone been to both places that could comment on the better option? -Thanks!!!

MacGringo Flew to Cali to visit wife's sisters so missed your post. The
Hotel Molino La Mesopotamia had a web site but I looked and could not find it. cost should be about 30 USD a night double. it is on the edge of town but that only makes it three short blocks to the central plaza

que bonita es la isla de cuba well i spent a month in cuba in feb 2005 i absolutely loved it brian.

i landed in the south and toured round trinidad, santiago, santa clara, mantanzas, bayamo and then spent 3 days in la habana and a week taking the sun in varadero.

havana is a must city city and a world heritage site, loads of great art galleries, street life, outdoor markets, festivals and definately worht checking out. if you go and like luxury hotels with a pool then stay in miramar otherwise try and get a place in the old town so you are not too far away from everything. dont forget to check out a show at the copa, copacabana, music & passion were always the fashion - barry manilow a bit too dated for me.

varadero is pretty quiet , has everything u need and about a 2 hour drive from la habana. if ya like sun bathing then this place is ideal. definately rank uup there in my top 5 beaches along with playa del carmen in mexico and south beach in miami.

try a tour if you have time and see some historic che/fidel stuff around havana and the anti american propoganda is excellent. i have a wicked a picture of george bush with an adolf style moustache saying - NO AL FACISMO - basically we dont want fascists here.

buen viaje en cuba o colombia

juanes en londres

vive fidel

ps.....if your a US citizen you can still go there and not have a stamp in ur passport to show you have been there if ya go via cancun or the bahamas.
