Hi...I just read someone else's posting on getting a visa for his girlfriend to come to the US, and I am thinking that you smart, informed folks may help give me peace of mind with my situation.
I am married to a Colombian. We married in the US in August, and then he returned to Bogota, I will visit him and stay with him there as/when my work permits. Eventually, (meaning in 2-3 years) he would like to come back to the US. Does anyone have experience with this kind of situation? Will he have a difficult time getting back into the US? What speed bumps should be we expect, and how large will they be?
Any suggestions on how to navigate through what appears to be a bureacratic nightmare?

I've recently married an amercian citizen (he was born in colombian but has lived in america all his life) and as for me.. well i'm colombian too but i'm a resident in the UK i have a child from a previous relationship, my husband is tired of coming to he UK to visit me and to be honest i'm tired of having a long distance relationship i want to be able to be with my husband for more than 6 months! so we've decided to go and live with him in the USA but before that we're planning to go to colombia and visit our families and while we're there apply for an immigrant visa for me and my daughter in the american embassy in bogota.. i'm very worried because people keep telling us all sorts of things and it's making the whole idea of getting this visa very scary! please help! what do we need to do? where do we need to go? what documents do they require? does anybody know?

utopiacowboy says on Dec 20, 2004, 15:24: Alexxyy9, did you also file for a K-3 or just the I-130? The K-3 is a temporary 2 year visa that allowed the spouse to come to the US to wait out the processing of the I-130. Lately Missouri is so slow with the K-3s that frequently the I-130 is approved first so there is no need for the K-3. When the I-130 is approved, he will go for an interview at the embassy and get his visa as a conditional permanent resident. He will activate the visa by entering the US and shortly thereafter he will get his green card in the mail. utopiacowboy says on Dec 21, 2004, 14:51: I went with my wife to the interview but that's just me, I did not want to take any chances. You will have to sign a form (I-134 for the K-1/K-3 and I-864 for the CR1) where you promise to be financially responsible for your spouse. With this you have to file copies of 3 years of tax returns with W-2s and a letter from your employer. For the I-134 you need a letter from your bank stating the amount of deposits for the past year.
