Anyone got a line on cheap health insurance?

Eafit here in Medellin requires verification of health insurance for admissions. I searched PBH but the cheapest I found was a poster quoting $80 per month. Anyone got a line on anything cheaper. Only need it to get through admissions, so the bare minimum works.

Thanks,
joe.

If it is ok to have a basic POS coverage, you'll pay it around 60,000 pesos per month. If they want a Prepagada plan, it is a lot more.
For a POS, go asking to Coomeva, Colsanitas, Colmedica, etc. You'll have to be signed through a Cooperative to pay low price: ask.

rob you don't have to go through a cooperative if he is working for a school/or in this case I think an university....the university already has representatives for each company who show up at the school and do all the paper work ....... as a matter of fact if you don't work you can apply with an Indepenant statues and say you make the min. wage

Try the search function here on Health Insurance as its been discussed ad infintum in the recent past,,

miamimike has the best advice. Search the site. I learned in my attempt in securing adequate insurance in Colombia that the coverage and cost depends on your particular set of circumstances.

Simple factors like are you employed by Colombian firm, age, individual or family, prior history, catastrophic coverage are just some of the considerations involved in making the decision.

Oops, went back to your thread and discovered you were not interested in adequate insurance coverage. Rather you only need to meet school requirements. While I don't have the answer, I'll bet you can easily get what you need. Again search this site.

Vic I have to say that I am not an expert about filling that forms but I had a look at it. I was told that if you own a house and you live in a higher estrato, you'll have to pay quite more, no matter what you declare to earn (it is something about "Renta Presuntiva"). Is it true?

health care costs are based on your wage and runs about 12 % of your wage...if you apply as indipendenti (sry spelling) all you need is a letter from an accountant to say you make somewhere near minimum wage and the insurance company uses that to figure you monthly costs...
if you work for a company or school proportional rates are 34% or 66% of the cost figured on wages earned.....so if he is making 800,000 total cost is 96,000 32,000 for employee and 64,000 to employer
now if your an indipendinte and make 800,000 there is a different scale and I think it is 50% of total cost so you would pay of the 96.000 about 47,000

DG, I have my passport number printed on Coomeva card. But I have to say that I was the "beneficiario" and my wife the "cotizante". So, at least, they have the possibility to enter a passport number in the terminal...
More, the whole matter about POS is changing, changing, changing everyday... look what happened with the "Seguro sociale"...

hthstudents.com I don't know if this will cover what they require, but this place offers $34/month if you are between 14 and 30 years of age. When are you going to EAFIT? I plan on going there for an undetermined period between May and August. Thus, I'd like to contact you to see what works., if you are there before me.

Travel insurance? If it turns out that those above are correct about needing a cedula to sign up, and you don't have one...

Another option is to take the cheapest travel insurance you can find back home. That will include some kind of health coverage (usually evacuation, not treatment in Colombia). However, it would almost certainly work for your EAFIT admission.

que nota!

no cedual no worky If he is working at the university he needs to have a cedula period...no cedula no worky....with the cedula he can get health insurance....the university will deduct the paymeny directy from his pay

Student vic, I think he is talking about admission as a student, not to work as a teacher.
