Anybody getting any Spam and Phishing through SKYPE?

Seem to be getting random calls and IM's from people from all over the world.. The usual suspect involved,, Nigeria, China.. It seems that any possible way to scam these days are being explored...

From Skype forum:

1) Open Skype and click Tools - Options on the menu
2) Click privacy
3) Click Show advanced options
4) Allow Calls from 'only people in my contact list', Automatically receive video from 'no-one', show that I have video to 'no-one', Allow chats from 'only people in my contact list', Uncheck 'allow my status to be shown on the web'....

Those are the basics, but to do it properly:
5) click Notifications
6) Uncheck 'pop up a window when someone requests my contact details'
7) Uncheck 'Display notifications in the Windows tray when someone comes online'
8) Uncheck 'Display notifications in the Windows tray when someone requests my contact details'

None of that but noticed service is lacking in other areas with it

My pleasure, Loggi.

In 3 years I think that I have only received one or two spams, but I made those changes too.

I'm generally quite pleased with Skype, as it has really improved.

I even have a Skype-In number with a Pennsylvania 717 area code, which out-calls to my Panamanian cell phone.

Thanks as well Sloop! I will utilize all of those spam blockers.. The quality has improved quite a bit right?? I thought it was garbage technology about 4 yrs ago, Now Im really impressed and love it.. Tell me a little bit about Utilizing you 717 area code? does that mean if somebody want to call you they call a local number and you get in panama as a local incoming call?

Glad to share, PCL.

Yes, the call quality has almost always been good, but there were some past problems with it, and dropped calls. But, the end-to-end service quality has improved dramatically.

My number in Pennsylvania might be an "intra-lata" number for some, which costs more than calling California from Pa, but it is a domestic number, which will connect to me on computer, or will call my cell phone if I'm not running Skype. You can choose your area code, and received calls now even display the U.S, caller-ID. If you have the number in your cell phone, it displays the caller's name.

The cost did go up to $60/year, per call connect charge (.49?), and 2 cents per minute (U.S. > Panamá, same as my cost to call U.S.). The reliability of that service is also now much better.

I have commented other times, that the U.S. phone number, and a dependable U.S. mailing address, allows me to easily maintain my U.S. financial life, as well as dealing with IRS, Social Security/Medicare, etc.
