The Embassy??? The embassy suggested that you write a letter and send tax returns? That sounds rather odd. That sounds more like something your mother-in-law would say after talking to some friends not something the embassy would say. How did they say this?

From all the information I've seen and all the accounts I've read, the odds of receiving a tourist visa are best if she shows that she has more reason to stay in Colombia than to stay in the U.S. Things like house, job, family, money that is stuck to Colombia, etc. The more it looks like she'll be more comfortable in the U.S. than in Colombia, the more likely the Embassy will think that she'll just stay here once she gets in.

Be careful how you proceed on this.

Also, I was wondering if it helped to go for your interview in September at the beginning of the U.S. Gov's fiscal year when they get there allotments for things. A lot of government things are easier in Sept. than in August.

this came from the embassy .. my brother in law called the embassy and pin number and asked what she needed to bring and they gave her a emergency interview or at least they said they did maybe everybody gets a interview in 10 days (because we were not ready for it this soon)- they wanted to know the stability of who she was going to stay with and they said to make sure to bring proof that my wife (her daughter) is pregnant .as far as the income they know she makes a meager salary and only owns her house which is probaly worth 50k ....i know it is a crapshoot but i have seen others get visa with less than her and others get denied with a lot of assets.thanks
