Any ideas on how to get from BAQ to Santa Marta?

Hello PBHr's

I have a question:
I'm arriving at BAQ and I want to know if anyone knows the easiest, cheapest, safest way for me and my luggage to get to downtown Santa Marta?

I'm no Colombia novice and I did once take a van (shuttle) from Cartagena to Santa Marta. The van stopped in Barranquilla but for the life of me I don't remember the shuttle company and I didn't have to pick it up from Barranquilla airport like I will have to this time. I never spent time in Barranquilla just a 5 minute pit stop.

I'd like to just hop of the plane at noon and get my ass to Santa Marta as I will have all my luggage I don't really care to spent a night in Barranquilla. I'm assuming a taxi would be way more expensive. I don't know if they have a shuttle straight from the airport but that would be ideal.

If anyone with information could give me any suggestions (or a lift for that matter) it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Bus or colectivo would be the best bet. Say 50 miles so less than two hours. Cost should be about 35.000 pesos (jump in guys, its been awhile). There will be several at the airport.

Yeah, at least a month.

I've used "Invertours" more than 20 times in the last two years. Over all they are the best bet for foreigners. They are door to door service that will even pick you up at the Airport for an extra 10K. Their number is 3008105686 or check their web site out at http://www.invertours.com/

Last time I was in Curmba, they charge me 25k from Baq to SM (35K with BAQ airport pickup). They drop you off at any hotel in Santa Marta or Rodadero. They will charge you an extra 10K if you are going to Taganga, so get out at the Port in SM and grab a cab if you want to save money. If they show up in one of their buses, your fine. If they show up in a car, try for the front seat or you will get stuck sitting on the bump of the back seat between two larger, upper society (but always polite) women.

The good news is that the company very rarely picks someone up off the street.

Hey I contacted Invertours and they told me 120K! for pick up at BAQ and delivery to Santa Marta. That seems really high. Or am I wrong. I know it's between 90 and 120 minutes. Here in Chicago I paid 60 bucks for a half hour ride so I guess that's cheaper than here but I really expected much less. In Guacharacas post he said 35K. Something doesn't add up. Discuss......

Good luck

Yes you are right. We called Invertours and they changed their policy about airport pick-ups. However they will still pick you up from inside the city and take you for 25K. That means that you will have to take a taxi from the airport and get yourself to the city. I remember that would cost about 14k to go my favorite hotel in the city. The Invertours office is too far away from the airport so you need to find some other location closer to the airport where they will still pick you up for the 25K fee. My suggestion at this time is to take a taxi to the "Exito Metropolitano" Department store on Avenida Circunvalar and Calle Murillo which is close to the stadium. They have a coffee shop there called "Oma". Have them pick you up there. It is a safe place and the coffee shop is near the main entrance. Unfortunately you will be the last person picked up before the bus goes to Santa Marta so you may not have a good choice of seats. Make a reservation first and confirm the price.

It's $5 by bus... El Rodadero is closer to Bqlla (southwest of centro).

Why don't you just stop in Juan Mina - El Faraon and forget about Santa Marta then?

Ok...
Barranquilla airport to Simon Bolivar (just after the bridge) by taxi 13,000 Pesos (get the ticket at the kiosk before getting the taxi)
Simon Bolivar to Bomba de Azucar by bus (Berlinave or La Costena recommended) 10,000 Pesos each
Bomba de Azucar - El Rodadero by taxi 3,000 Pesos (they will try to charge 4,000 or 5,000)

Total for two persons 36,000 Pesos. 1.5 - 2 hours.

You could also take Wayuu and fight for the ticket price. You could get along with 7,000.
It would surely impress your sweetie.
