Anyone know of a moderately budget place in Santa Marta? Every place I've checked is booked. I made this trip last minute and I guess I ignorantly didn't expect that. Before and after those dates no problem. I prefer my own room and air-cond if possible. I'd even take just a secure room to crash in at this point. Let me know.
Thx

Gator says on Dec 4, 2007, 19:10: You are, I am afraid amigo, facing a helpless task. I assume you are speaking of the El Rodadero area and not Santa Marta proper? The absolutely the worst time and area (El Rodadero) in Colombia to plan at trip with out a prior reservation-there is likely some hope in Santa Marta prople about 7/8 km away. Adanimal says on Dec 4, 2007, 19:21: Actually Gator I was Speaking about Santa Marta Proper. Rodadero is a little too slick for me but I'd take a room anywhere in the area at this point. I hope I don't have to go back to Barranquilla to sleep for a week! Thanks for the depressing thoughts...ugh...What do you think of Taganga? I'd even consider there? I"m only one person. You don't know your there until your there! 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

Adanimal says on Dec 4, 2007, 19:23: Are there any little towns outside of Santa Marta that may have a hotel? Maybe I can make lemons into lemonade and find a quiet little place. You don't know your there until your there! 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

Adanimal says on Dec 4, 2007, 19:25: The place I'm staying when I come in is already 3 times the price that I paid in June and July. I didn't think about the high season I guess. You don't know your there until your there! 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

huskie says on Dec 5, 2007, 04:40: My sister has a lovely house near the Irotama Hotel, not on the beach but about a 5 minute walk to it. Her house has a swimming pool, lovely gardens and flowers and is quiet, easy access to transportation. She rents her house occasionally to families or individuals. If you are interested let me know and I will get you in touch with her\ Huskie "Great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds-" 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

Gator says on Dec 5, 2007, 07:23: Taganga is good for one day at most, IMHO. The only two town that come to mind are Cienaga or Minca. Also if you are looking for some great beaches and scenery think about Riohaca up on the Guajira Peninsular. That city is the capital of the Departmento de Guajira. Adanimal says on Dec 5, 2007, 08:19: Thanks Gator...I'll do the research..I'm curious about the Guajiara Peninsular. Minca sounds like a sleepy little place. I'm totally ignorant to Cienaga. I don't know anything about it..How do you get to these places and what am I looking at in terms of cost from Santa Marta? I wonder what New Years Eve will be like in these places. The locals from S.M. told me not to peak my head inside Venezuela they told me it's Dangerous at the boarder. Any thoughts on this? I've never been to that country. I didn't check the visa requirements. Is it an issue for yankees?....Last time I was in Taganga it was like little Israel. They had some signs in Hebrew and the Israeli military women with the shaved heads. Curious place but I agree, I can't imagine making a whole 9 days out of that place. I was even spoken to in Hebrew more then once. I guess I kinda look Israeli or something. You don't know your there until your there! 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

Adanimal says on Dec 5, 2007, 14:19: Totally it's fine to stay. I have a friend in Tagaga too. I'm kinda partial to the old city for some reason. But with this lodging situation I'll take what I can get. You don't know your there until your there! 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

My mother is suffering from terminal cancer and I am taking her to Colombia next month to see some of the most beautiful places in the country, and this is one place we will visit.
