It's about a notorious serial killer! Once again, it's filmed in Ecuador.

xochistar says on Jun 30, 2005, 22:33: Crónicas I saw a screening of this film last week and participated in a Q and A with the director. It was an interesting film -- unsettling and not intended as pure entertainment. The film is not about Colombia, and not just about a serial killer (though a serial killer is one of the main protaganists). It is set in a small coastal community (i forget the name of the town) in Ecuador and follows a group of journalists as they cover the case of a serial killer who has claimed several children as his victims. The director mentioned that some of his ideas for the film were inspired by the Garavito case (a serial killer who I believe broke the Guiness record for the number of people he killed) in Colombia a few years ago. While the story of the serial killer is central to the plot, the film also prompts questions about sensational journalism (i.e. Primer Impacto) in (and about) Latin America and the balancing act of reporting, keeping a distance, and simultaneously being implicated in the "story" or subject one is covering.
