I´m an American travelling to Cali this January. I have two questions. First, is there something that I need to do in customs to insure that I get a 3 month stamp? From the research that I have done so far it seems as if the customs official takes a look at you and decides which stamp to give you based on his mood at the time and not necessarily on your needs. Also, what would be the penalty for overstaying the Visa? I have done it here and Argentina and I only had to pay a 50 peso fine. What would be the penalty in Colombia and is there a way to extend the Visa once in the country?

Gator says on Dec 6, 2006, 08:08: Right. You get what you get-usually 60 days sometimes 90 and it is entirely up to the DAS agent when you enter. You can extend the visa, usually thirty days at a time, by visiting the local DAS office. Call that office to determine the exact procedure. The fine can go as high as 400.000 pesos. DAS decides at the time of the extension so good luck-BTW there is NO appeal from their decision, "Credidi pretio parvo emere et magno vendere tibi in animo fuisse!" . 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

arthur brode says on Dec 6, 2006, 14:40: they will most likely give you 60 days when you enter.when your 60 days expire you go to DAS and apply for the 30 day extensions.DAS will give you a maximum of four 30 day extensions.i never overstayed my visa,so i dont know what the fine is.but from what i have heard its 400,000 pesos.not sure if thats for a month or a 6 month overstay. http://www.calirentals.net/ 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

Gator says on Jan 19, 2007, 14:06: You MUST Have A Valid US Passport To Enter Colombia In fact you will NOT be allowed to board an inbound flight to Colombia with out a passport. Be aware Starting Jan. 23, travelers -- including U.S. citizens returning to the United States by air from throughout the Western Hemisphere -- will be required to have passports. This new requirement includes Americans, Canadians and others who have previously been exempt from having to carry a passport to enter or re-enter the U.S. Certain alternatives will be acceptable for low-risk and other eligible travelers. people who apply for entry but do not have appropriate documentation will be referred for secondary screening at the port. In secondary, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers will evaluate any evidence of citizenship or identity the individual may have and will verify all information against available databases. Gator says on Jan 20, 2007, 12:54: You Can't... tu novia MUST be the one to make the application at a Mexican Embassy/Consulate, preferably the one in Bogotá. "Credidi pretio parvo emere et magno vendere tibi in animo fuisse!" . 0 funny, 0 helpful. |
