All this talk about shipping your stuff to Colombia...

I dont even know that I want to have to start this search, with so many other things going on in preparation to move to Medellin! So I'm wondering who might have some good information out there.

We have a half-apartment full of stuff left after moving from Barranquilla, but now we will close out where we live in Miami and move to Medellin. We will have about 1/2 apartment of stuff here, and a lot of it I dont want to get rid of - what a great start it would all be to Americanizing my Medellin apartment (since I've never seen a comfortable Colombian sala to save my life!).

I have heard you ship/pay byy size, not weight. Anyone have any good information on reliable companies, advice on the process or experience in cost of shipping and IVAs???

Sure would appreciate it....

If shipping by a cargo container, you pay for volume, not weight PM expatriate as he has been the most reliable source of info that i have found....Kamino shipping is the one i am using, but not sure if they would be of help in Florida as they are in San Francisco,,,i decided to buy most of my stuff in California then pay to have it shipped...including some larger items (ie, with the features or quality you wont find in Colombia without spending months looking for)...expatriate has some excellent suggestions for what to buy here and bring with you.....

Just my opinion...and brought to you by a kinder and gentler

If you use a Miami Shipping Company(freight Forwarder) ask if you can split a container with another person who is also shipping to Colombia if you don't have enough to fill a Container.. This is a common practice(sharing containers) here in Miami, lots of freight forwarders here in Miami off the Palmetto Expy by the NW 25 and 36st exits. In the same area as Servientrega's Office,,,

Mike, Not sure if they do containers, what we do is air. It's there the same day then delivered in 3-4 max. I've got no experience with containers. So, i can't be too much help on this one.

Friends of mine do this all the time here in Miami Last week a Dominican Couple split a container; it cost each around $800(1600 total)...It will be there in Puerto Plata,DR in a few weeks,,,There's a Ton of Companies here in Miami where this couple is located. If they can't find a company here, it won't be found anywhere,,,

Also, a vehicle? Anyone also have experience in a vehicle? I know it has to be new and unlicensed.

Mecca... Can you refer me to the company you use, if you can provide a good reference on them? I have a few now that I am talking to but want to make sure I exhaust all the possibilities.
