Alimony from dating too long?

Has anyone ever heard that here is someone has been dating for over a year you are considered basically married and upon breaking up she can, oh sorry she/he, can take half of what you own? Of course she has to prove it with a lawyer and such.

I have heard of this from several people but have never confirmed it. Anyone know. Not dating anyone, but damn thats sneaky.

no its not ,

it is if she can prove she has lived with you FOR 2 YEARS ,yes she can ,
but she can not touch what you had before you meet ,only what you bought and did after ,but yes its 2 years .
as for a contract ,its bollocks ,if they are kids ,the judge will say ok ,she signed ,but the kids never ,so 50% will pass to kids ,you wont win it .best just sit down work out how much she will take ,that's it ,over .my second one cost me 220 million ,but i was happy to give it ,22 years a long time and i fucked up ,but the 3rd ,just 20 million ,get the fuck out .not done her too good ,she in miami asking me to pay for her to come back ,ja ja ja ,stay. where you are darling ........

I was told by a reputable Colombian lawyer that if the lady in question can prove that you supported her financially for 2 years, she could claim half your assets (in practice half your assets in Colombia). Living with her didn't seem to be the criterion. Just interested to see if anyone has come across this approach.

I also write for the archive.

ala raca....count your money...not your blessings. if you're getting close to those magic dates, beware. it's not just the ladies at issue, it's the input they get from family and friends which, i might add, is not always friendly. it can turn into a nasty, conniving situation where your lady friend becomes a turncoat and then your enemy. just becareful.

the fact that you might have entertained great relations with the extended family will not be a good defense. i've been married for twenty years and been through it all. there's always an asshole some where in the family bleachers who plants seeds of discord. without exception. one tio of mine was accusing me within the family of being a trafficker...."where does he get all this money?" "why is he always flying in and out of the country?" and on and on. my wife had difficulty fending off these accusations. it can be tough, and as said above, if the squeeze is not the choice for the mum of your kids. step back and let distance protect you...especially if you have feelings that something 'might' be amock.

This is good info for men. Yes two years. If you can prove that she cheated on you, you can get off the hook for alimony. You have a two year window for using this route for separation.

I've heard a lot of malarky in my life, but that takes The cake. Who told you that?

Even in Canada, which has the most onerous divorce laws in the world, even if your married for a year, she's only entitled to half of the net gain on investments , during that period. As far as alimoney, thats a different issue, but usually paid as a salary (which you can quit paying as soon as you high-tail it for Thailand or Nicarauga)

In the particular case of Colombia, what kind of dunderhead (nothing personal against anyone, just a "theoretical" dunderhead) would keep even a pittance of his money there? A $60,000 apartment in Santa Marta, maybe, with a big "Hipoteca" , si possible.

Why the hell did they make offshore accounts for?

If it floats, flys or f**ks, rent it.
