This past weekend I watched the disappointing interview by Jorge Ramos of the parents of the Mexican students who died in the bombing at the FARC's camp in the Ecuador side, a few kilometers from the Colombian border. Disappointing because any professional journalist would have shown both sides of the coin instead of the way Jorge Ramos handled this one-sided interview. Of course the parents and family members of these supposedly students are going to scream bloody murder to anybody who'd listen. And Jorge Ramos almost apologetically said "I have to ask this question, what where the students doing there?'' To which the family members replied, oh, they were students doing an investigation, for their studies. The colombian government has been trying to find this terrorists for years and trying to pin point their camp location for months but the students probably called information and got their address and phone number, contacted them made an appointment and just showed up to interview them. Why didn't Jorge Ramos ask just exactly how they knew where these terrorists were and how were they allowed to just walk in? Why didn't Jorge Ramos showed the other side of the coin and interviewed side by side anyone from the Colombian government who was well-informed in this situation? Is Jorge Ramos from Mexico? Hmmm. is Univision a Mexican network? Hmmm. I wonder. Jorge Ramos still has to learn a lot about true journalism.

But I do have to say that Jorge Ramos is one of the best latin american reporters we have here in the States and always shows both sides of the coin. Can't speak for this interview since I was comfortably sleeping in my cozy bed. Diana 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

mrgizmo says on Apr 14, 2008, 15:06: After watching this interview, my opinion of Jorge Ramos went down hill. Most of his audience is from Mexico and he works for a network controlled by heads from Mexico (most of them) therefore the pressure to not making these people (the parents of the students) look bad was high. Even if the students were legit, they knew the risks involved when they went, they have nowone to blame for their destiny but themselves. Again Jorge Ramos lacked professionalism and guts to show both sides and to ask the right questions. Behind every successful man, there's a nagging woman 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

Monpirri says on Apr 14, 2008, 15:15: Ramos is more like a politician than a journalist but when convenient he embraces himself with the "Hispanic' flag but as you have pointed out he lacks professionalism and I am not saying this now because you have posted this post. He and his crew and his TV satellites in the states were the reason I decided to stop watching Univision, Galavision, Telemundo, Telefutura several years ago!
