Hope it's helpful.

I have lots of extra frequent flyer miles if anyone wants them for a trip to Colombia. It takes 35,000 miles and I would sell them for $550. If this saves you money over the cost of a cash ticket, contact me.

In addition, miles seats are good for up to a full year in Colombia! Or they are great to use when moving someone up here, since the lower cost cash tickets are only good for 30 or 60 days.

The thing with using miles are that you need to have some flexibility in flight dates. And it is hard to use them during holiday times. Other than that, they are the BEST way to travel... and change fees are only $50!

Frequent Flyer Miles will most likely not work There are certain amount of seats reserved for Frequent Flyer, when these are taken you are screwed. This is what I was told by American. Not to mention that allot of the tickets have been reserved already for December. Things get booked fast for the holidays.

Good Luck,

Multiple stops Although a pain in the arse, making multiple stops can save big bucks but you'll end up wasting a day traveling (I'm talking 24 hours). It all boils down to how expensive your time is. Right now from JFK to CTG on Continental/Copa you can get $623 + tax = $704 12/14 depart 4:30 PM - arrive in CTG at 8:30PM the next day - OUCH! return on 12/21 8:30AM arrive in JFK that night at 11:00PM.

OR don't go in December.

I go to Medellin for $780 non-stop from JFK on a Friday 7:00AM arrive MDE that afternoon at 12:25PM (5.5 hours) - return 9 days later Sunday night non-stop 6PM from MDE arriving in JFK at 11:15PM - back to work Monday AM

Airfare = $780
Taxi from Airport to Robledo Miramar - $14
Juanes tickets - free!
Aaguardiente on my breath - $3.00
Chicharon, almojabanas, arepas, y aroz - $2.00
Coming home with a Paisa in my heart - priceless

Depending on the dates You may be able to find something a little cheapper if you go to Miami, I think you can pay about $120 from New York to Miami and $650 from Miami to Barranquilla and then take a taxi from there to Cartagena. But for your own comfort you can directly to Cartagena and pay $100 more.

You can check flights on Avianca from Miami Barranquilla at http://www.avianca.com/ and American Airlines has cheap flights from New York to Miami.

Your second option a little bit more but not much more different will be Continental/Copa like Rocinante says.

what are your dates? It's also sometimes cheaper when you fly during the middle of the week, than say on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday.
