AIRLINE TICKETS TO COLOMBIA

HOW MUCH WAS YOUR AIRLINE TICKET TO COLOMBIA?

WHY DON'T WE ALL REPORT WHO WE TRAVEL WITH AND HOW MUCH WE PAY?
QUICKEST WAY TO FIND OUT THE BEST PRICE TO TRAVEL TO COLOMBIA WITHOUT HAVING TO SERF THE NET. FOR EXAMPLE LAST FARE I HAVE SEEN FROM LOS ANGLES (LAX) TO PEREIRA (PEI) WAS $580usd PLUS TAX ON TACA AND AVIANCA. MIAMI (MIA) TO BOGOTA (BOG) WAS $280usd PLUS TAX ON AVIANCA. HOW MUCH DO YOU PAY?

Says who? Ronaldo: I agree with you. We should all join forces in our common aim to go to Colombia. Tell me, where exactly are you finding these fares? What time of year is your LAX-PEI fare for? The TACA.com website doesn't list Pereira as a destination on its website. Know of a good roundtrip fare from LAX to Cali in the second half of December? TACA has one for $825usd. Is that because it is the high season? Is that the best fare I can find out of LAX for that time of year? I am thinking of going there for the feria.

I have just paid £642 for a 6-month return ticket to Bogota from London with British Airways. That was the cheapest I could find and I got it straight from the BA website. It might have been cheaper to fly Avianca via Madrid but I prefer to fly direct.

What a great site!!!!! Can we take this just a little deeper? Can anyone comment on the dependability of some of these airlines like Avianca? I have heard they are alway late. Any experiences out there?

I've flown with Avianca from the UK and Spain several times and have never had any problems - except with small things like the big TV screen at the front not working properly (once)! Not had problems with internal Avianca flights either, as far as I remember.

Thta seem to be very decent prices. I bought a twoway ticket from Germany to Medellín with Airfrance via Paris in januray for 879 Euros.

The distance from the USA s smaller, though.

juanalejo says on Sep 14, 2004, 09:37:

STA travel I had some friends who had some terrible problems with STA Travel, they got a good deal on BA, but they were never told the difference in ticket classes. The problem arose when they were wanting to book in August back to London and BA did not have their ticket class available until October, and their ticket was not possible to upgrade to a different ticket class ( from Y to H ) or something like that, and they finally had to buy a one way full fare to be able to go back to London. Basically you can be given a ticket who is flexible in dates, but the airline might not have a space in your ticket fare available for a long time. In BA´s case they were told they tend to be sold out 60% of the year and that is why cheap ticket class will hardly ever oppen. So unless you are sure of your return date, these cheap tickets are not always the best deal.

TACA/West Caribbean You may want to look into flying TACA (taca.com) airlines to either Costa Rica or Panama and then connecting to Colombia with West Caribbean Airlines, which is based in Medellín (http://www.wca.com.co).

I think that if flying from the UK British Airways is not the best choice anyway as they are normally late leaving bogota and they stop in caracas, open the doors and let all of the humid air in, and you can't leave the plane for 1 hour.
Air France are by far the best with a direct flight (in my opinion).

larryste says on Sep 14, 2004, 15:53:

too many variables I think the idea is a good one for a general guide. But there too many variables.

For example these are some of the variables

Tuesdays and wednesday are really discounted.

If you buy a ticket more than 30 days you are not getting a good discount.

The airlines heavly discount from 14 to 29 before a flight.

The time of year is a one variables too.

The price from a gateway city like maimi the ticket prices change a small amount like $140+/-. Because of international flight prices are set by international law.

What is really cost the connecting flight to the gateway city. The ticket prices are really variable they can change $1200. That is what you save the most if you buy smart.

If I bought a ticket to cali tomorrow it would cost me $1700. I bought the ticket 20 days befor the fight it would cost $500

Where I live is 2 conecting flights from maimi. So I am really screwed when I comes to buying tickets

What gets me there is no one web site for the best ticket prices.
One time it would be priceline the next time it would cheap tickets dot com. Then the time after the next it is expedia.

You best bet in finding good ticket prices is go to all of the web sites and check there prices. If you have fexiable travel plans try differnt dates.

Too bad you need a time machine Bummer you'll need a time machine to make your August 2003, flight.

I know someone who recently used Delta/Song and Avianca to get from LAX to BOG for $580 RT. I think the connection was either Atlanta or Ft. Lauderdale.

Ticket prices are very hard to pin down, other than saying try going during low season (mar-oct at least w/ AA). Using places like cheaptickets or other consolidator can save a few bucks here and there if you don't make any changes AND don't care about miles. Miles are a great way of traveling, because some airlines don't charge a change fee if you want to extend your stay or go back early. Heck, you can even change departure city at no add't cost. Here's an example, if want to travel to COL during low season (before Oct 15) it cost 35,000 miles and high season(Thanksgiving/Xmas/New Year) is 40,000 miles. And you can change dates and departure cities w/ no penalty.

Avianca I have flown many, many times on Avianca. Never late. No problem in all my travels with them. I have been held up by weather, but that is
not Avianca's doing. Put me up in a $200 a night hotel, with a steak dinner, until we could fly when weather cleared. I will fly Aviance anytime.

The cheap way
If you want to do it as cheap as possible and have the time, you can get from Miami to Bogota for about $150. Lan Chile and a couple others fly Miami to Caracas for an amazing $115, all taxes incl. Bus Caracas to the border, border to Bogota, about $40 or so. This works in reverse as well, Bogota to Miami.

Air Fares You can go Mia to Cali for US$289.
You should also be able to get to MIA on Southwest Airlines for US$200 from anywhere in continental US. (Actually you arrive at Ft. Lauderdale. Take tri-rail train from Ft. Lauderdale to MIA airport for $4 O/W door to door). All fares plus tax.
