Aires:Cali To Medellin Not Rionegro

Just saw an ad in El Pais saying Aires will have three flights daily Cali-Medellin direct. Depending on the schedule that could make trips from Cali to Bahia Solano/Nuqui/Capurgana a lot easier!

I'm quite happy with the Aires service from MDE Olaya to CTG. They have flights leaving about every 2 1/2 hours all day. And I live about 5 minutes from Olaya.

What types of planes do they fly?

Various sizes of Bombardier Dash 8.

They would have to be prop planes I would guess because there is no airstrip for big jets at Olaya.

They are props, 37-passenger. Big jets cannot land at Olaya, but smaller jets can and do.

Some good pictures on airliners.net of Aires Dash 8s at EOH.

Didn't this airport get scheduled large jet service before Rionegro's airport was built? The runway at EOH is 8234 ft. so it's plenty long enough for many types of "large" jets.

It's definitely long enough for a 737 as Uribe's version of "Fuerza Aerea 1" has been a visitor to EOH. His presidential plane is a Boeing Business Jet (737 derivative). Great pic here:

The length may not be the problem. I don't think that the pilots and passengers liked the steep descents to the valley floor.

I have seen the odd jet land there over the years, which looked like 737s, but nearly ALL are small prop planes of about 30-50 passengers.
