Ah FUDGE! I have to renew my visa

Ok, another one for ignorance. I thought I only had to stop by DAS and renew my cédula. Turns out I have to renew my visa as well. It's a spousal visa.

Now I have to go to Bogotá (oh, joy and frolic)

From what I remeber I need to bring:

1. cedula
2. passport
3. a letter from my wife (notarized) requesting my presence in the country
4. a notarized recent copy of our marraige certificate.
5. $ but am unsure how much and whether it can be paid in cash or not.

Anything else? and does any of this stuff need to be apostilled beforehand?

From what I understand it is all taken care of in one day, right? Yes, I did some homework, but DAS here has no idea what is needed so I thought I'd ask PBH, thanks

checking the archives (dec 06) I guess I just need:

1. marraige cert notarized (do I need the church one too?)
2. copy of wife's cedula notarized
3. photocopy of her passport (only certaing pages but easier to just copy all of them)
4. My passport (i'll bring copies too)
5. 3 photos with whit background
6. letter from wife - notorized
7. the form filled out (can I get one online?)
8. Money, how much or where to pay????

Checking out the gov's site, one also needs a letter from DAS saying you aren't wanted or anything. - shit this is getting to be a pain in the ass.

No clue Miguel!
Now it looks No clue Miguel!

Now it looks like I might have to leave colombia and get it though a consulate, the page:

says the following:

Since I'm renewing my spousal visa, it won't be the first time, so I guess I'll have to leave Colombia for it?

Enjoy Bogotá

You will have to visit MRE's Coordinación de Visas e Inmigración office at Carrera 13 # 93-68 Oficina 203. This is not too far from Parque 93-kinda around the corner. Office is basically open from 7:30 AM to 12:00 PM. Their phone number in Bogotá is 640 8576 and the e-mail is cancilleria at minrelext.gov.co. Pretty god about answering e-mail requests.

Not positive exactly what you will need because things change but I do know you will need your civil record of Colombian marriage, certified and not more than ninety days old, wife's cedula or certified copy, your passport, the required form which you can download from the site or fill out at the office, a letter from wife (notarized) requesting your presence in the country, and the photographs which can be done next door at a little shop, . Not sure of the cost but I THINK it is about 140/150 USD which must be deposited in the Banco Popular around the corner. As lawyer colombia said this is the last one-next you canb apply for permanant residence and that visa is good forever.(It's what I have)

Here is what Resolución 0255 del 26 de enero de 2005 requires for the visa.

Thanks Gator, I thought you'd pop up on this thread. I'm bringing every document I can possibly concieve of so there will (hopefully) be no problems. The only thing I'm unsure of is whether or not I can renew this visa in Bogotá or if I have to leave the country. The quote I put in above is a bit confusing. I also called a travel agency that does other visa's for people in Bogotá and they said I had to do it from a consulate (but they had a bit of doubt in the voice too).

I called the ministerio and they gave me the email. I'm waiting to hear back from them.

I know that when I did this in Spain and NYC, I also needed a letter of good conduct from all the places I lived in, but that was to get the first visa (my first expired while outside of colombia so I had two firsts). On the site it says the letter is needed from DAS or a valid, non-expired visa, so I should be ok now.

A La Orden you will not be required to obtain additional police clearances once you have a visa that required them.

I am sure you will be able to do this in Bogotá-at least I was. The question of applying at a consulate only comes up for the first issuance of the TS Visa if you are out of the country for the initial application. I guess MRE assumes if you get a souse visa you pland to remain in Colombia.

I spoke briefly with a lady who lives in our building and works for MRE. She said you renew at MRE here in Bogotá and the cost is $160 USD but has to be paid in pesos. She had no idea why this method of payment is required. She also said to get there the first thing in the morning as there can be a longer wait if you come later in the day.
