Aguardiente taste test - yecccch

OK - so I am a little late in reporting on the taste of Aguardiente. My fiancee brought a bottle (clear) in August and we got married in September. Then one day I tried it and I tried it without any mixer - It basically has no taste but my throat could feel the alcohol going down (just like with schnapps.)

So! Sorry but I give it no thumbs or toes. I do like a shot of Schnapps once in a while but the Aguardiente had no taste (for me.)
Should I try it with a mixer? what?

rjstuff There's no mixer that can disguise that distinct taste.
I'm with you on this one man.....Guaro might be the nation's most popular tipple but I can't stand the stuff, I think it's the licorice/aniseed taste but it's HORRIBLE....i've always been more at home with the viejo ron caldas or better yet a nice cold Poker...now we're talking!

No flavor? I can't imagine Aguardiente with no taste. The problem with aguardiente is that it has a very strong anise taste, like a milder ouzo or something. It's the kind of flavor people either love or hate. I hate it.

Are you sure you weren't drinking guaro, which is basically pure cane liquor.

You Damn... sure can't sip it. No mixer is usually used You have to knock it back. Definitely it's not a sipping drink. here is a song in Colombia. loosely translated that goes, "Give me an aguardiente, made of the sugarcane of my valleys and the anise of my mountains. Don't serve me a drink from abroad which is expensive and doesn't taste as good."

I like it but then it is, perhaps, an acquired taste. It doesn't bother me, until I try to stand up.

I like aguardiente but I certainly found it pretty vile at the beginning. Yes, it is an acquired taste, at least for many foreigners. I don't like ouzo either. Tasteless? No way, with that distinctive anise/licorice flavor. I think it is a bit too sweet for my tastes, but I can always appreciate a caneca of Blanco del Valle, especially when the snow starts falling.

Cheers,
Desi

Aguardiente is so good for you that they use it as a purgant.
Method.....get up in the morning....walk past the bathroom and straight to the kitchen.......grind some garlic (1 or 2 cloves is fine)......take the garlic and shove it down your gob......wash it down with a shot of guaro.
So good for you your stomach will tell you how effective it is after 5 minutes :-p

Aguardiente for me, please I am not a drinker, but the distaste comments posted here made me go and find out for myself, I opened a bottle of Aguardiente Antioqueño.
I found the taste smooth and pleasant. The bottle says 375 ML. 29% alcohol, Aguardiente Antioqueño.
I am pretty sure the bottle has not been tapered because it had a wrap-around label.
Next time you are going to have a shot of Aguardiente think of it as "Sabor, Cuerpo y Calor"

monpirri1 - thats exactly what my bottle says The bottle says 375 ML. 29% alcohol - Aguardiente Antioqueño. Its a white lable with some red and a little green and it has a gold border around the lable. It is clear in color and my wife told me that they don't make it from anise anymore and I couldn't feel an anise taste at all (or sugarcane) - its pretty tasteless like vodka or gin when taken straight. Not hard to drink but not great either - so monpirri is correct that it is smooth (not for me though.)It didn't have a laxative effect either - thank God!
Thus ends my curiousity with Aguardiente - I have 3/4th of a bottle left; if I meet any Colombians I will offer it to them or maybe it can be used in cooking? Any Iron chef Colombianos out there with a recipe for Aguardiente? Jajaja

aguardiente without anis de mis montañas? It shouldn't be called aguardiente any longer. Too bad. It's the end of an era.

Remember, you have to be in the mood to enjoy it more. Think of it as Las Chicas Aguila, "Sabor, Cuerpo y Calor"
