advice on telephone number

the 5 is only needed when calling a landline in barranquilla....the 315 is a mobile number which is why you dial the number complete.

PS i live in the UK 2 which calling card do you use..?

The first post was correct Robinson, I am from the UK and that is the way to phone Colombia. As stated above mobile phones do not require any area codes, the 5 is only for phoning land lines in that area of Colombia.

robinson 011+57+1+310+437-**** This is to call my wifes cell phone. The break down is

011-designates an international call from the US
57- IS the country code for colombia
1- is the city code for Bogota and also for my wifes cell
310- the pre fix for all cell phones I believe
437-*** is the actual cell phone number

All this is explained in detail in the front of most phone books.

lpdiver... wrong when you call cell phones you don't dial the city code. In other words, lose the 1 after the country code in your example above.

for some reason that is how I had to dial my wifes cell when she was in Medellin (90% of the time). I cannot explain it...simply know it to be fact. I checked it in MY cell before posting. Probably dialed it 10,000 times if even once.

Something is wrong lpdiver Do not know how, but you should not be able do dial as you are saying. In Colombia 1 is Bogota, 2 is Cali, 3 is mobile phones, 4, is Medellin and so on. Mobile phones have nothing to do with the area you are in.

I have to admit that I never tried dialing a cell phone with a city code in the sequence maybe it also works ?

Maybe we can all call ROBINSON30s girlfriend at 315-657-9475 and test her bilingual language skills as she been in english school in Barranquilla. I am sure he would appreciate the help. I think that he missed sharing her name with us so maybe he can post that too. But with the phone number I am sure we can carry the call long enough to work through the name stage. jajajaja
