Advice Needed

Hi everyone. A few months ago I flew down to Barranquilla to visit my fiancee for the first time. I went straight from the plane to the taxi to the hotel (El Prado), where I spent most of my time. I didn't encounter any problems. I would like to fly down and visit her again, but now I know a lot more about the potential dangers and it has me somewhat concerned. Was my good fortune beginner's luck or is it fairly safe if one avoids walking the streets?

take a look at this thread Personal Safety in Colombia

It is a great summary of using common sense for your safety in Colombia. No need to hide in the hotel all the time, unless you have a good reason to ;-)

Thanx Lionheart I really enjoyed my trip to Barranquilla. Not just because I got to meet the woman who has now become an integral part of my life, but also because the climate and scenery are a lot like Hawaii but much less expensive. I would like to go again in the next couple of months. Everyone was very nice to me the first time, but I was also told by many that the bad element does exist and to avoid strange places, so I did. Hawaii at a fraction of the cost? You bet I want to go back!!! By the way, Hawaii can be dangerous if you stray from the beaten path. ;-)
