Abortions in Medellin

Well my cousin has serious promblem he got a girl pregenant here. First he lives in the states and second he is only 23. So i said that i would look around for him and find an option on an abortation. We know it is illegal here and that it might not me safe but the truth is that if we thought that the place was by any means not safe he wouldnt go through it. Anyone know of any places in Medellin that perform abortations?

I am not too sure if we can help you with that. Yes... abortions are illegal here but in the big picture, legal abortions in the states or anywhere else aren't "safe" either. Way too many under reported complications for the mother. The safest thing for the three parties to do is to have your cousin man up and take care of the people in his life.

If you can't find a solution in Colombia, it occurs to me that you might consider Venezuela. I imagine the Church has far less power there than it used to.

njtea5,

YOur friend has gotten himself, and you as well, into a lot of problems.

I do not think the answer will be an abortion, especially in Colombia.

Tell "your friend" that he should look into another options in the process.

Just for the record, I'm Pro-Choice.

GOOD LUCK!

Oh sure, if it's not convient for you it's ok to take a life of an unborn inocent child. Life begins upon conception. I payed for 18 years in the States. I was tricked and lied to by the mother who said that she couldn't get pregnant. I still stepped up to the plate and met my responsibilities. For 18 years they both messed with me. One month after the childs 18th birthday I said good bye and farewell to the both of them.

Thanks for the name calling. No love for what I created? I was a sperm donor and nothing more. I guess it's ok for people to lie, hide truths, cheat, spread untrue info, not repay debts, treat another like shit or a sub human being, and on and on. Even after the turd/child turned 21 he was still being a total asshole. To top it off, 1 year prior to him being born, on Christmas Eve my girlfriends son was killed by a car. I was too much of a reminder of her son to mygirlfriend and one month later, I had to let het go too. I was still greiving. Then a woman I barely knew did that to me. She knew my history and my ongoing greif. 30 years later I'm now taking the chance again and have a wonderful 22 month old baby girl. I'm trying not to be too overprotective.

Jesus Christ, but there's some judgemental modefoques around here.

You moralists oughta know just a hair more what you're talking about before you start making accusations, or telling other folks how to live their lives. The world's NOT a black/white place- it's shades of gray.

As usual, I agree with slyguy. Everybody chill .... chances are, we are on the "same team" so to speak. The brief posts here do not explain 90 % of the whole story(s). A few people here were quick to get upset without hardly any information. Then it snowballed. Anyway, I digress. I hope this calms down and some friendly discussion begins. It (abortion) is a "hot-button" issue, with very strong, emotional opinions coming from every angle. But surely we are all adult enough to have a calm discussion. Heck, if you are hardcore anti-abortion, calmly explaining your point of view would be more productive than the quick to be defensive attitude. And same to the hardcore pro-choicers.

More to the point...

The OP didn't ask if abortion (or, ahem, "abortation") was the right choice or not - they asked where/how it might be found. People answering "abortion is wrong!" (or words thereof) is akin to me asking someone where I can buy cigarettes and them answering "You shouldn't smoke!".

The OP was never asking for a heavy moral debate, nor implying that they valued the opinions of posters on the matter. They simply wanted to know where someone could get an abortion.

Hell, if I knew, I'd tell them.

Abortion in Colombia is illegal.

In practice, what happens often is that you ask around and you know some doctor who does it, in some private house. Some places will have a psychologist available.

The risk is that often it is done in bad circumstances, with potential harm for the mother.

Your best bet would probably be to go to some gyneacologysts and simply ask them. Just make appointments with 5 of them and ask.

Poor but snappy

lawyer CO says on Nov 11, 2007, 08:48:

The abortion is legal in Colombia only in 3 cases:

1. When the pregancy was producted of a sexual assault. You would need to fill a police report and be part of a criminal case.

2. When the mother has risk to loose her life during the pregancy. Certain steps followed by hospital must be accomplished to get the permission.

3. When the woman was pregant through artificil methods without her permission.same as above.

The rule is clear but many hospital denied the abortion so you need to get lawyer in order to sue for the permission ( 90%) of the cases.

There is an institution that helped me back in the days, they don't publicly admit it but they can help with stuff ranging from the morning after pill until chemical abortions for the first 2 months and real abortions for later stages of pregnancy. They have psychologists and social workers and offer you many options, adoptions and abortions included. Drop me a line at arenis at informatik.uni-freiburg.de and I could give you more details if you are interested.

Yes, it's easy enough to get an illegal abortion regardless of the details, if that's what you want.

But otherwise...

"
3. When the woman was pregant through artificil methods without her permission.same as above."

The other two conditions are correct, but this one seems questionable (I have no idea whether the law allows it or not).

I do know that the other, semi-recently legalized condition you are missing is the one about birth/genetic defects making the fetus non-viable.
