I know the Cable&Broadcast News had pretty extensive coverage but I expected more from the posters on the Political Forum!! They(posters on abc) are a pretty diverse bunch and seldom miss a trick! Maybe the mainstream posters are more concerned with the New Record Oil High of $146 Barrel and the Stock Market which nosedived 140 points yesterday!

I would bet that MOST Americans didn't even know these 3 were held for 6 years? There has been coverage but very sporadic. Probably because they were on covert operations for Uncle Sam.

It is just like how the press refuses to call ILLEGAL immigrants illegal. They use terms like "undocumented" et al...

I don't know about TV because I rarely turn the thing on, but the story is front and center of the three newspapers I follow each day - The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times and the Minneapolis Star-Tribune (aka Red Star). On the Google News page, there are over 6000 instances of the story. I bet just about every news wire and newspaper in the world has picked it up.

Yes its been well covered on the Newscasts but as you can see on the political Forum on the OP, since I posted it this AM, its only generated a 1 small Thread and then only a few posters contributed. Amazing as on this website, they rant on for days about stupid stuff like why doesn't Obama wear a Lapen pin or is McCain a true US citizen since he was born in the Panama Canal Zone(he is)--yet something really newsworthy like this involving 3 Americans , one ex Presidental candidate, finally free at last with quite the rescue and hardly a word. Shows what our Society considers newsworthy here in the USA. Madonna's impending possible divorce generated more coverage on this website. Sad,,, Give me a Break!

The network news is geared to the geezer generation plus it's summer, a holiday weekend, and a good news story, not a scandal. I wouldn't read too much into forum comments or lack thereof (FWIW, there are only 32 comments on the NY Times web page).
