A true Colombian!!!

ORACION PATRIA

Colombia patria mía
Te llevo con amor en mi corazón.
Creo en tu destino
Y espero verte siempre grande,
respetada y libre.

A 100% Colombian follows this prayer. If he or she who does not follow the creed is either because he or she is heading to a voltiareapas arena or more likely the 'Colombian" is already a voltiarepas!

The "Oración Patria" (roughly the Homeland Prayer). I had to repeat a slightly different version of that almost every day during my military service's basic instruction:

Colombia patria mía:
Te llevo con amor en mi corazón,
Creo en tu destino
y espero verte siempre Grande,
respetada y libre.
En tí amo todo lo que me es querido;

"Hijo" can be replaced by "soldado" or "policía" depending on where you did your service. We had to shout and hit our chest in the part of "and DIE!!! to defend you".

I don´t always agree with what I said or write here, so no one should feel offended.

Colombiano come colombiana
Colombiana come colombiano

A true Colombian try his/her best not to fight with anyone, let alone a paisano
A true Colombian defend the country without putting down other countries.
A true Colombian does not doubt about his/her nationality, and don´t get upset for others trying to suggest otherwise.

A truly Colombian is a proud owner of a car like this.
Amigos de Colombia

Retires with enough time to take naps at any given day, time and anywhere in Colombia.
Amigos de Colombia

Wears the national tricolor most of the time.
Amigos de Colombia

Wears a shirt from his/her favorite soccer team, but when any other team plays abroad, that team is Colombia and bets for it, but thinking with the head and not with his heart.
Amigos de Colombia

But, I'm going to start making some assumptions here.... Which means I might actually end up making an ass out of myself ..........Thu 04 17, 2008 11:34 am

Monpirri, a few questions...

- Do you consider yourself to be 100% Colombian?
- How many years of Colombian military service have you done?
- Do you live in Colombia?
- What percentage of your income do you pay in income taxes to the Colombian state? If you are not contributing this year, when's the most recent year you did contribute?

que nota!

dwmte7 says on Nov 15, 2007, 05:06:

pedro....trying to see if i really understood your comment. a conscientious objector is not with standing...or tax evaders. do these individuals not enjoy their birth right. the biggest tax evaders are in bogota holding public office. and i have countless friends in el campo who for one reason or another didn't serve in the military (tending chickens, children, crops, etc) and they don't make enough money to pay bills, let alone taxes. does that mean to you--please correct me if i'm wrong--that they're not 100% colombian?

Monpirri says on Nov 15, 2007, 05:54:

Pedro,
I consider myself Colombian because I promote Colombia! I do not care much about voltiarepas.
I promote Colombian culture; gastronomy because we have one of the finest cuisine in the world (Although some Colombian will die to say otherwise), I consider Colombian because Colombia has richest and most diverse music rhythms, I consider Colombian because I do not remain silence when Colombian women are the objects of prostitution by some foreigners, I consider Colombian because I promote and advertise Colombian products over stuff from other country, I consider Colombian because I do not find enjoyment when some Colombians love to trash Colombia just because they want to make more friends, I consider Colombian because I find that a website as pbh is great instrument to educate “savvy" foreigners and “expert" Colombians raised overseas, I consider Colombian because I do not like to use pbh as an extension of the biased media, I consider Colombian because when I visit Colombia I want to export the best of Colombia for those who believe that Colombia is the way they are used to seen on media, I consider Colombian because I want to give credit to Colombian productions so the world does NOT get mislead since we do not have the means yet, I consider Colombian because I do not have a low self-steam and I did not experience a horrible experience in Colombia when I lived in Colombia nor do I find amusement visiting this forum to bad mouth Colombia, I consider Colombian because I do not use a website about Colombia to promote my own interest over the future of Colombia, I consider Colombian because Colombia needs true Colombians to help regain her true image! I consider Colombian because I do not spend my valuable time looking for mediocre information or graphics to represent Colombia, I consider Colombian because I believe Colombia is not one city or state, I consider Colombian because I find great enjoyment highlighting the positive things that Colombia has, I consider Colombian because I do not like when propaganda or misleading ads are posted here on pbh with the purpose to deceive the public opinion, I consider Colombian because I am Colombian and I do not like voltiarepas who are frustrated in Colombia or with Colombia and use a site that can be used to shows the beauty of Colombia, I consider Colombian because my family in Colombia live in different parts of Colombia therefore I'm I love to post info about the whole Colombia! I consider Colombian because I believe in the above prayer and may God bless Colombia too.

Bien dicho monpi! I respect and admire your love for my homeland. It doesn't matter if you were born in Colombia or not, what matters to me is how you feel about her.

True Colombian, Pure Colombian, 100% Colombia, who cares, it's meaningless. It is a statement which presumes nothing of substance which can be agreed or disagreed with.
The problem with people that debate on the subject is not so much that they believe what it is they do, but that they are so damn dogmatic about what a "Pure 100% Colombian" is and is not.

Being Colombian is a state of mind, it is wanting what's best for her, to criticize her when criticism is needed, to use one's resources [money, creativity, skills] in helping her to forge ahead, to respect and not abuse others, to allow for difference of opinions, and to welcome with open arms those that come to her with a desire to contribute to her glory.

Mother Colombia is big enough to love her born children as well as the adopted ones.

pedro says on Nov 15, 2007, 10:53:

Douglas, if you read Monpirri's OP and consider it... I was thinking that:
1) that prayer is not the definition of a true Colombian
2) Monpirri asserts that it is, I wanted to assert that by his very own definition then he is not a true Colombian

As such, I posted a few questions that we can use to establish facts. People can then draw their own conclusions about whether Monpirri qualifies.

Judging by how he dodged my questions, we can work on the assumption his answers regarding actual contributions to the country are 0, "no, I don't live there", and 0 again.

He apparently thinks a true Colombian qualifies by zealotry and not much else of substance.

Let's speculate that Monpirri probably contributes resources to his own family in Colombia, but contributes nothing material to the Colombian state.

Does that make him less Colombian in my mind? No, plenty of Colombians are doing the same
Does that make him less Colombian under the definition he just subscribed to? Hell yes!

.
Added after re-reading prayer -- Yesterday when I read it, I took out of it a subtext that if you want to see Colombia remain great, each person has to contribute something to the effort. When I reread it with a stricter sense of what it's calling for, now I realise that it leaves the way open for you to do nothing more than feel a sense of identification with the country and let someone else do all the work to improve it.

If we view it like that, then perhaps Monpirri does scrape in and qualify under the definition he chose.

thank you pedro, it makes me feel more colombian already. now i have a clearer understanding of those i worked with and for in el campo. they saved my ass/life by keeping me alive and showed a side of mother colombia many of my rich friends don't understand, nor, do they embrace or manifest. i hold nothing against anyone, as i am the last person anywhere qualified to judge anything. i just know that what i have experienced in colombia is truly rare for foreigners and for this, i am eternally thankful. viva colombia

too, i truly hope that my small contributions...helping others, building onto their homes, helping with farming and teaching english free to the children of campesinos; as well the treatment of my many employees when i had manufacturing activities in the late 80's and early 90's, in some small way added to the whole of what colombia is. as strata woman so elequently described above. again, to colombia and colombians, my deepest, most sincere and heartfelt thanks.
