Well, I spent a good month with my girlfriend. I got back from Colombia on the 25th of Feb and already I'm being asked when I'm going back. The purpose of my trip was so that I can get married. Ran into problems before because the Notaries didn't understand nor accept that I was born in Germany but had a US Certificate. The other thing was trying to get the Apostille. Anyway. I finally found out what I needed to do to get the Apostille for my birth certificate the day before my flight. With that, I didn't have time to send it off before leaving the next day. I was thinking that I could send it do DC when I got to Bogota. Yeah Right! It is next to impossible to find a place (whether it was DHL, FedEx, or UPS) that would do a pre-paid return. I found a DHL Office that said they could, or so I thought. I sent it do DC and after waiting for a week and a half, I called to find out what was going on. Turns out, that instead of sending it to me in Colombia, They sent it to my house in the US. This was about half way into my trip. I wasn't to happy, Less so than my girlfriend.
When I got back to my house, I got my mail that was put on hold and sure enough, it was there. While talking to the guys I work with, I was telling them I have a couple weeks left before the papers are no longer valid. I told them that if it was possible to take time off of work soon, that I could probably get married. They said "why not". At this point, I'm thinking that I can't take any more time off of work because I just got back from a Month off.
Turns out to my surprise, that they are willing to help me out a little. I submitted a request to my boss and he said he had no problem with it. So next Monday, I'm on my way BACK to Colombia for 2 and a half weeks, so that I can get married. Now that I have the papers I need (FINALLY), it's just a matter of finding a notary that is available during my visit. I'm ready to get married, get to the Embassy and get her Visa ASAP! I think i've done enough running around lately.
It's a good thing I have a lot of patience. I'd go nuts if I didn't.
