Hello,
Its been a while since I have created my own forum topic... The past four months I have been just giving my silly opinions!
I know there are high import taxes when bringing items into Colombia. But, I have noticed that all topics on this site about such taxes are for finished, consumer products (cars, personal items, cloths, electronics etc...).
Does anyone have information to share about taxes involved in importing raw materials? Like, say there is a Canadian guy thinking about manufacturing products in Medellin, and he wants to import raw materials (from suppliers in USA, Mexico etc...). I know that its better to buy from Colombian sources, but suppliers here are few and far between. In fact, this country is ass backwards for suppliers, and yet, Medellin is ripe for manufacturing (low labour cost, low rent costs, highly skilled pathetically paid engineers ect...).
Lets say I import "x" amount of "y" raw material. What are the import taxes like (of course, you can't give me hard numbers as I am giving only variables)? Is it specific to the country where the materials are coming from? Of course, if there is an import tax, I realize that it has to do with weight and quantity.
Any and all info welcomed...
Thanks a bunch....
Dave
