A Little Contest Re: Zagarise

Asked the nephew to check (he is a computer engineer, programing) and guess which two other handles run back to the same IP address. Anyone want to take a shot on his other handles and where he lives?

IP addresses I'm no techie but they can indeed be traced.. dunno how, but people I've talked to have been able to tell me where I am in the past when I have been using smaller or localized IP providers. It's rather unsettling.

isaactraveler says on Dec 5, 2004, 15:30:

in my opinion I never really thought that Zagarise was Italian. I think it is a spanish speaker using a translator. I dont really believe that the average person can actually track down someone off the internet. you can check IP addresses, but I think large companies such as AOL or such make it almost impossible to find someone. You can get close though.

Gerbil says on Dec 5, 2004, 15:54:

Don't forget he's also queen of the jail/dance.
And tracking IPs is a lot easier than you think - even on dial-up where it changes each time you connect.

Point is his english is just fine - the most articulate of his various ego-fillers is queen of the dance, and it's highly likely that he speaks fluent english.

No-one speaks THAT bad english - it's how someone who speaks english writes when they want to appear like they have little mastery of the language.

As trolls go, he's not a good one - it's almost like he's found a 'how to troll' list on the internet and is going through it step-by-step.

Ah the joys of faceless means of communicating where you can pretend to be someone else. The odd thing is most people tend to project themselves as someone witty, intelligent and very likable (oh, good-looking too!).

It's a shame the forum software used here is so basic - the ones I run on not only store posters by IP (very amusing to publicly post proof people are one and the same) but also allow blocking by IP masks, which would kill this twat immediately.

How to write bad english For anyone wanting to pretend to be a schizo-multilingual non-English speaker, first you take a post some gibberinsh like this about how you hate americans and they're responsible for all the evils in the world. Plan Colombia is killing poor grandmothers and all American's are the sons of George Bush. Then you run it through a automatic translator a couple times. This one is going English- Italian- French- English

Here's what you get:

As a prémier place you take certainly with a alberino gibberinsh like
this approximately as hated American and are responsible for all the
malvagità in the world. The Colombia program is the m3més poor of
murder and entirely American is the wire of George Bush.
Then fairies to function by an automatic translator time of the
couple.

"as his other attempts at writting good english are poor."

You see it from the wrong perspective.
His other attempts are of writing poor english, and they are poor - that one was more like his proper english. I am quite sure he has a strong command of the english langauge.
There is a world of difference between the writings of someone who only knows a little of a language, and someone who knows it but wishes to pretend they don't.

Given I'm reasonably competant at English and have years of online fun dealing with kids like this, his efforts stick out immediately.

And that's before you even become suspicious about his extreme lack of knowledge about all things Italian (has he mentioned Mussolini yet in any thread? ;)...

By the way, I should point out I don't believe Gator has this 'proof'. The board does not show the IPs of other users, and your cookie (bloody thing times out too quick - nearly lost my epic reply in another thread because I was logged in at start of typing, and logged out automatically when I hit 'post'!) has no need to contain this info (off top of head can't remember if it can't, or can, but possibly encrypted). Either way, your own personal cookie info is not available to other users unless they are admin or have access to some rather nasty software which chances are would be illegal (not to say it doesn't happen of course!).

However, it doesn't make any of our guesses less valid, indeed I'd bet money on the one I and Don Negro said are the boy in question :)

kernow62 says on Dec 5, 2004, 20:01:

That's what I said previously prior to you mentioning how easy it is to find out user's IP addresses. I know it is easy to track at least to an ISP and perhaps a town, not necessarily an individual although that can be done in some cases. I can post with different IP addresses and fool this process.

Unless of course Gator is one of the administrators that Peter was looking for recently, now that would change my take. But I could not see where IP addresses were stored on pages that we the general user could log onto.

Lionheart says on Dec 5, 2004, 20:44:

IPs are visible I run an Internet radio station.

I can see everybody's IP on the server when they are streaming audio or video, masking services do not work with streaming contents, I even see which media player and version they are using.

No, I will not give out that info ... it is a moral obligation that my listeners trust me, most don't know I see that info.

BUT ... if we can get certain lost marbles to listen, I might make an exception ... I would think the loosened screws would love an oportunity to speak on air?

We broadcast multilingual content, so gibberish is allowed.

I am pretty sure Peter can see IPs as well. If I had seen his post I would be willing to host and moderate, I have 10 years experience doing this in a fair way.

kernow62 says on Dec 5, 2004, 21:03:

Lionheart that was precisely what I was saying the admin can see the IPs, just as I can on who visits my sites, along with lots of other info. MY IP provides a neat little utility that draws pretty little graphs, it shows percentage of vitors from US, UK, Colombia etc. it shows OS used, browser used (supposedly), how long they stayed on each page, what page referred them, if they saved any images (I use this one on my commercial sites to crack down on copyright infringement), it shows if they bookmarked my page etc. As a responsible admin I would never abuse this info, but it serves a very real purpose.

That is why unless Gator's nephew hacked into the site to the admin level he would only then be able to see IPs, at least as I understand it.

If I was Peter & had not allowed Gator to have access, I would be a bit upset.

Mario you are correct!

PS: I was not talking about using a masking service, there are ways to do it without resorting to this.

Peter, contact me if that offer is still open. I am willing to help.
