A Gift?

I am going to Colombia next week for the first time. I will be meeting and staying with my boy friends parents. I want to bring them a gift...but what should I bring them from the states? What would you want if you were parents in Colombia?

more info okay...so they are upper middle class family, they live in a very nice house and have everything a "typical" colombian family might need. I don't know what they have...maybe a DVD player could work. But what i am looking for is something that a colombian family might want...that we have in the states, but don't typically have in colombia.

my boyfirend is not too much of a help....as you can tell..b/c i am turning to you all.

any food items, clothing items...
thanks

simple things I agree VCRs and stuff are fantastic gifts but don't forget that certain items we take for granted are highly appreciated out there. I was requested to please bring EXCEDRIN aspirin as they dont have it.. (well thats what I was asked anuhow)
certain items overe here are highly regarded over there like DOG SNACKS for your family's pets.. those snaks we get at PETSMARTS don't exist in Colombia and you will have the families pets worshipping you for this.

buy them a PO BOX Sometimes people might need a service instead of something "fisical".
In that order, they can bring anything from USA to Col.

Family Gift You need to gently nudge your boyfriend into helping you. Buy a few off the wall gifts, keep the receipts, and hopefully he will be frustrated enough to spew a list of items that would be more appropriate. I would bring 1 big (moneywise) gift for the use or enjoyment of the total family...ie DVD/VCR combo, digicam, etc. Stay away from bringing specific small gifts to individuals..somebody always ends up disappointed, or unimpressed. There will be later visits to bring hand creme to your suegra and Tommy to your bro-in-law. Try electronics...they're expensive down there and welcomed.
