A few questions about services....

I am going to be preparing to live alone in Medellin, starting in October,to avoid the roomate hassle and have some privacy. By doing this, obviously I will now be responsible to start-up and maintain services. I am here on a 2-year visa and have a Cedula Extranjero. From those of you with true knowledge, not just guesswork, what are the complications/possibilities of having the following services in my name as an extranjero living here without Colombian Credit:

1. Gas
2. Electric
3. Water
4. Telephone
5. High-Speed Cable Internet (UNE)
6. DirecTV

Any input or personal experience would be appreciated!

No problem. If you rent gas, electricity, water will go to the owner name.
In Medellin, I would advice you to ask for triple play (internet and tv + ip phone service) at UNE. It can be put to your name, if you want.
If you're the owner of a new apartment, all the services will be put to your name.
At the Empresa Publica de Medellin, they won't need credit history in Colombia.

what we do in life... echoes in eternity.

"I am a citizen of the most beautiful nation on earth. A nation whose laws are harsh yet simple, a nation that never cheats, which is immense and without borders, where life is lived in the present."

So... ...if I rent, all the basics are in the owner name and I just pay them. Regarding TV, internet and phone - I can get all this at UNE and I am ok to start an account with them based on my current status here in Colombia?

Also any info on DirecTV?

The "lovemedellin website" is a piece of crap made by some moron who has only been to Medellin once...you'd be better off reading the Lonely Planet advice from a guy who never even came here!
