BUENOS AIRES, Colombia (AP) — Colombian officials say rebels have killed at least seven members of a police counterinsurgency unit in an ambush in the country's southwest.

The regional police commander, Gen. Gustavo Ricaurte, tells The Associated Press that two policemen were wounded. He says the patrol was returning on foot and in an SUV when they were attacked Monday afternoon.

Ricaurte says the patrol was engaged in combat over the weekend with a column of the leftist Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia.

Since taking office in 2002, President Alvaro Uribe has seriously weakened the Western Hemisphere's last rebel army.

But the FARC remains lethal. According to the Defense Ministry, it has killed at least 187 soldiers and police this year

FARC rebels have reportedly killed seven Colombian police officers in an ambush in the southwest province of Cauca.

The ambush came following a military offensive in which a FARC base in the area was bombed. In that attack at least 25 rebels were killed and several more left injured.

While Colombian President Alvaro Uribe has actively pursued FARC rebels and has weakened their position in the country the guerillas still hold power in several rural areas.

"BUENOS AIRES,"

Settled by Argentine terrorists who are well know for boring people to death through constant lecture on how superior they are to the rest of the world. A heinous crime indeed.

some careless worker at the passport office in Colombia had the audacity to put down Buenos Aires, Cauca as my birthplace on my passport. That's how I got to know of that place with deep resentment.

During military battles, field commanders are prepared to accept the loss of up to 33% of their troops during combat. This is acceptable but also remember that it is possible to have a loss 90% and the mission could still be declared a success.

The alternative to losing any troops in battle is to surrender, a maneuver our continental European brothers know oh so well.
