Last night they featured Colombia and how large coorporate companies payed off the FARC for "protection". Chiquita bannana supposively told authorities of this in 2007 lets say. The US mention in 2002 or so that the FARC is a terrorist organization and that funding them would be a crime again the US (probably like more serious than a felony". Now the Colombian government wants these executives extrodited to Coloiombia for trial. Personally I donnot beleive Chiqiuta claiming they missed the news about funding the FARC is illegal and not knowing. There is also an inmate in Medillens max. security prison that claims there are many other American companies that did this. So my question is what do you think ought to happen to these executives from Chiquita?

If I'm correct, the dude they were interviewing at the end was Salvatore Mancuso, one of the AUC (paramilitary) leaders. He would know very well who was paying and who was receiving. FARC wasn't the only ones on the take.

The US gov't, under Bush, don't seem to care. I sincerely doubt whether any US executive is brought to justice. But let an alleged Al Qaida operative be caught in Colombia and watch the hoops put up to have him extradited. Straight hypocrisy.

The chiquita company has had there hands in many things, for a long time. I remember 60 min. running a story, back when Bill Clinton was President and they showed Airforce One in Israel. You see Bill C. clearing the doorway of AF1 and right behind him is the president of Chiquita Bananas ?????? They showed that this dude makes extremely large contributions to both the Democratic party and the Republican party!

So..funding FARC? hey, why not, he payes everyone else off.

Don't hold your breath waiting for Bush or McCain to act on this Terrorism. Look at Cuban Terrorist Luis Posada Carriles, strutting around Miami free as a Jaybird the last 6 months and not a word of outrage from either of them,,,Even after he admitted planting a Bomb on a Cuban Airliner that blew up the plane and killed 73 young innocent atheletes. The Day after 9/11, he lets the entire Bin laden family leave the US, yet for others, No flights permitted to leave our Airspace,,,And you think this administration cares about what goes on in Colombia?? LOL Thank God our Congress cares(about what our Taxpayer's $$ is used for in Col)

I couldn't agree with you more, especially when one considers that they were the infamous United Fruit Company (UFCO). While there is no proof that they were directly involved in the Banana Massacre in Ciénaga in 1928, they did call on the Colombian military to forcibly put down strikes on a number of occasions. A couple years later, President Olaya Herrera was told by a US government official that he would have to seek the approval of UFCO's management before appointing his candidate for the Minister of Industries...so much for sovereignty! And of course there's the wonderful number they did on Guatemala in 1954. We could go on and on...

They are no better than the Republicans, if they do not want $$$ going to Colombia it is because someone else is putting $$$ in their pockets and they are profiting from it. They do not give a dann about Colombia. American Unions tell the Democrats to jump and they ask "How hi"? Not to mention the millions of dollars that the unions donate to the Democrats every year (Which comes back around as wasteful union contracts for the US Government). Democrats caring about Colombia or how US tax dollars are spent......they have run the house and Senate for how long now? They were sopposed to have fixed all of Americas problems and what have they done? I mean, what are they waiting for? These loosers have a lower approval rating than Bush.

Good history lesson Lcacique

My wife tells me that everyone was paying to the paramilitaries depending on which - FARC or ALU or someone else, was in charge of what area - and she means Colombian companies, not just US companies. Her father was angry at her for taking a job in a mining company - but it paid well and the mining company paid the terrorists. Stories of Colombian companies paying to get their executives as well as workers released by the kidnappers are everywhere. Its almost as if - its OK since the companies at least provide employment to the locals - no one seems to care if it makes the paramilitia stronger day by day; and the people who do stand up against them are chopped down like green onions. Will be interesting to see if the situation in Colombia really improves or gets worse.

I agree with the other post as well on how there are so many loop holes that more than likely these people will go unpunished. Bastards.

If Salvatore Mancuso is to be believed, the management of the entire banana and plantain industry in Colombia should be headed for jail. He says all of them paid the AUC three cents per crate.

Doc--by a preponderance of the facts they(colombians) are better off by the actions of a Democratic President. It is the Congressional record that Plan Colombia, which is largely responsible for the vastly improved Security found in Colombia today, was signed into Law by Democratic President Bill Clinton.

As far as Unions telling democrats when and how High to jump, that is Old Time thinking--not true at all today in many cases. That theory went out the door decades ago. Why??? Look at the drastic drop in Union Memebership these days. BTW, when I worked Heavy Construction in the 70s, our Local in Pennsylvania Heavily supported Richard Nixon who won the election. So the Dem Party Bosses didn't tell our Union Local "How High" to jump, LOL Reagan Garnered a large percentage of Union Member's Vote in the 80s so again what you claim simply did not happen,,,The Teamsters also voted for Nixon back then, ditto for the Large Unions that represent Seararers(merchant Seaman) like the National Maritime Union and the Seafarer's Intl union, now merged into one, the Seafarer's Union.Unions cannot Snap their fingers and assume their individual members will vote the Party line they call for,,,

Good point MM--- the one I have watched over the last 10 years is this "raise the taxes for Education" lie. Every year schools are crying about not having money for the teachers and the schools. The teachers Union fight tooth and nail and get the politions to vote in 100% school tax increases and then the next year its the same dann thing all over again. And being that i have had 5 kids in the school system i have mucho contact with teachers and they complain about the $$$ never making it to them or the schools, so where the hell is the $$$ going every year and why are my taxes being increased by the teacher unions and the Democrats "who are the heros of education"? Can anyone here tell me how many of their bills have school taxes attached to them?

By the way MM, dont want to give you the wrong impression. I believe all Lawer/Politicos' are crooks! Does not matter what the party. I have been around these people long enough to here what they have to say (unofficially). This includes the trial Lawers. They do not give a dann about anyone but themselves.
