6 MONTHS TO ENTER ON K1

I was told today by a VISA specialist that after your K1 visa is issued to you, you have 6 months for her to enter the states and then on the top of that once she enters you have 90 days so its a total of 9 months you have to get married once she gets her visa.... pretty interesting, you would think if a guy goes through all that for his woman that he wouldnt wait 9 months, any thoughts on that?

yeah, bama; think about it.
life isn't always so simple as 'just the two of us', and even if it was, then she (or you) could have othe obligations that would prevent a ...micro-wave ........movemiento ahorita.

She could even have a dependent, in school maybe to complete it would be a consideration. there could be a thousand things, that one might need or want to alter with a little time alotted.

my fiancee wants to wait until her colombian boyfriend can get his tourist visa next month. then, she promises to come here on her K-1 and we can get married before she runs off. that is`what I love about her...she is pretty and sensible.

Bama, you are basically correct in your post. The day your fiance is issued a K1 visa, she has 6 months to use said visa. It allows her / him one entry into the US. On the day that your fiance enters the port of entry in the US, there is a 90 day clock that starts ticking for marriage. So yes, if one were so inclined, they could stretch out the total time from the visa issuance date to the marriage date nearly 9 months. I doubt this happens much. But, the beneficiary is given some time that way to make arrangements. How long would it take you to leave your entire life behind in the US? It takes time to arrange things, say goodbye to family, quit jobs on good terms, sell possessions, etc etc etc. Have one last quicky with Colombian novio. jajajajajaja (pretty funny Chester)

hAHAHA that is true, who knows that is how it could be, I guess what I dont know what hurt me, but I dont think its like that, but you can never be sure. Keep an eye out for my posts, I might be writting in about 2 years saying she left me for another man, or when she gets her green card say she is bringing him over here and has left me..... :-) Just found out since she works for avianca as of a week ago, I got 5 free tickets to use in my name since I am her Fiance/ boyfriend.......... Robert, holla at me and maybe we can meet up one day and have a beer..... I will be in bogota around Oct 18 for about 2 weeks and then hopefully around Feb to see the fiance again, hopefully she is in Cali or Cartegna with avianca, I dont want to be in bogota, to cold.......

Hey Bama, I wasn't trying to hint you personally had anything like the Colombian novio to worry about. But it has happened to others. And, even if she has a green card, she won't be able to petition for another Colombian to come to the US. You have to be a citizen to do that.

I won't be in Colombia for a while. My guess is next spring, we will go back for a church wedding. Who knows, in a few years we may end up down there permanently. Many financial factors involved. But if you are ever in Florida, look us up. That's a pretty cool hook-up as far as getting tickets from your beloved.

in my opinion, once you get here, it makes sense in the K-1 situation to quickly marry and get the paperwork rolling for Adjustment of Status, Employment Athorization and Social Security Cards. That in itself can take over 9 months to complete. Hopefully, the beneficiary wll receive a work permit in 3 or 4 months.

if the marriage falls apart before 2 years, the beneficiary has to leave since the conditional 2 year green card will expire. (that is assuming the marraige lasts more than the original 90 days on the K-1 Visa and the beneficiary receives the first 2 year green card).

yes, they could always just hide in the woodwork like the millions of other illegals.

for instance, my Novia's colombian Novio is a real good car mechanic, and since I own 2 1978 Ford Pintos, I've promised him tons of work.

check out visajourney.com for their timelines as submitted by others.

the visajourney.com site has tons more info then here.

I cannot believe these worthless pieces of shit at the US Visa and Immigration Offices raised their fees sky high and provide such poor service.

Tengo una pregunta. Tu novia tiene un otro novio? Ustedes comparten ella?

I'm joking....I'm just suggestion that since the AOS procedure takes so long, that it makes sense to get married soon after the beneficiary arrives so the paperwork can be started.

I do realize some marriages fall apart before the two year anniversery, or even before the 90 day K-1 visa expires,

but, the Adjustment Of Status (AOS) takes so long that I believe sooner is better than later when it comes to marrying the beneficiary.

ps- I never owned a Ford Pinto. but I did have plenty of Dodge Darts...man, I saw lots of those old cars in colombia
