50 CENT---

Do you think a guy like that is well received though?? I am just curious what people think...I mean in MY opinion (just an opinion.dont crucify me hah), I feel like not too many people like rap music and there is also a lot of racism/racial tension with African-Americans. Ok, so maybe 85% of the global female population are shallow, golddiggers...but apart from the sloozys they are going to drag up for 50 and the fact he is a celeb with a FOKload of $$, do think girls in Medellin or Colombia would dig a guy like this?? I just don't think so..but again just personal opinion based on stuff I have seen. Take away the $, the cars, and the bling, and is an everday african-american rapper asking for 2 boxes of condoms?

feldz0084, kind of a racist statement no? Take away all that money, the cars, the bling, the girls, etc. and what is left? A darker version of you, Does that make you superior to him? You sound like a hater.

People get with each other for all sorts of reasons, money/financial security often times being a major factor. Heck, even I'm looking for a sugar mama.

I live here in Medallo in a pretty big, decently affluent complex of about 7-8 buildings. In my apartment yesterday, windows open, a whole lot of 10-15 kids were outside having some drinks in the parking lot outside of the tienda and bumping 50 cent. They all looked like your normal, privileged young colombiano out here.

They said I couldn't play football I was too small / They say I couldn't play basketball I wasn't tall / They say I couldn't play baseball at all / And now everyday of my life I ball.

not at all and im sorry like it sounded that way...my roomate in the us and best friend here is african-american btw.

i said from MY personal experience spending a lot of time in colombia and seeing many occasions where black people arent being let into clubs/events...usually they were lower class. i was even on the coast teaching a large group and all the parents asked me about me feelings about obama and why they thought a black man should never be in office. again I AM NOT trying to generalize..just merely commenting from things i have experienced first-hand on NUMEROUS occasions.

im just trying to say you think hurricane chris and soulja boy are coming to do a concert there and get good reception? hard time believing so.

Why do you call the African Americans? Do we call whites, Anglo Americans all the time? Or English Americans? He is black. He is not from Africa, he was born in the USA. It is actually racist to call him African because you are basing it only on his race and not where he was born. He is no more African than I am English and I was born in the USA also.

NO missing the point..like i said im not hating on anyone for however they appear...im just asking how you think a minority rapper with none of the above material chit in a south american country where i have personally seen a lot of racist stuff go on, would be received. but this is a dumbass argument anyhow. i mean if i was in fokn medellin i would go to the damn concert with you

I'm not obsessed with 50 Cent by any means. Yes I concur that there is discrimination in many parts of Colombia, just like there is in many parts of the US of A. I feel somewhat removed from what happens back in EEUU because I was born and raised in NYC. If I was from the South, Mid-west, etc. I am sure my feelings would be different and more biased.

My personal opinion is that he will sell out, or nearly sell out both his shows -- the one in Medallo and the one in Santiago.

Music, much to the chagrin of spy1983, tends to transcend racial and class boundaries. The same way a kid from the hood can appreciate the Led Zeppelin, daddy's little rich girl from the burbs will be in the moneyed clubs shaking her rump to PIMP.

They said I couldn't play football I was too small / They say I couldn't play basketball I wasn't tall / They say I couldn't play baseball at all / And now everyday of my life I ball.

I'm sure they don't but even if they do, they don't care. It's music made in the US, so in their eyes that makes it cool.

Besides, many reggaetón songs are just as dirty and nasty as 50 Cent's and they go crazy for it down there.

So it doesn't matter.

If you guys listen really carefully to some of the old school vallenatos, you are listening to some pedophiles singing to young school girls asking them to stay home, not to go to school, etc. Not that they're gonna get it on with the young girls, but these singers are past 20 years old singing to very young girls. You can hear it in Jorge Onate's and Los Hermanos Zuletas songs. Back in the day, vallenato the same as Bachata was considered low class music for low class people. I, personally, LOVE vallenato, bachata, salsa, rap, everything!! Except country. Can't get into that.
And YES, alot of kids in Colombia DO KNOW what 50 is rapping about. I have a 21 year old cousin who sings reggaeton and when he chats with me, he calls me "his nigga" so they are very aware of the lingo from here, over there!

So the tennis-player's question is understandable: will he be well-received, and if he is... why?

Sorry, I must disagree! There is some racism. My friend has a daughter a bit on the dark side, a bit of the nappy hair and she goes to ONE of THE expensive schools in Barranquilla, Marymount and the mother is very proud to state, "no permiten negros en el colegio" and the daughter said, "excepto yo, yo soy negra" and she gets teased about this everyday because of her hair and skin color. That's not the only example, haven't you heard people speak about the black features also? " Tiene la nariz como un patacon" God forbid someone with money is going to marry a person with a dark complexion, "hay que adelantar la raza, no atrasarla" heard this many times since a child..........So there is some racism in Colombia too, unfortunately.....

Perhaps just the opposite? We'll see because the central bank cut the 50 percent 6 month hold on foreign investments today. Now that the dollar is gaining on its own vs the COP the Central bank is reversing one of it's key policies implemented back in March in order to curb the COP's growth - Which did't work by the way. If foreign capital comes pouring in to La Bolsa for some short term action we could see a run on pesos. Today might be a good day to go to the ATM as tomorrow the US market open....

At least you have an opinion señor Dub. Awesome. I'd say the Fed raising interest rates is a safe bet. The interest rate yield differential is muy importante. The Colombia economy has been solid and steady (OK a bit fast). Stifling with high interest rates? Care to expand upon "stifling" with say GDP or another such number?

But I don't think international investors looking to make money are interested in US healthcare and US social security. Energy is a global thing and Obama is not going to control OPEC. The US is not going to be pulling out of Iraq any time soon or if that does happen it will be to get into Iran with Israel. Expect a big attack and a war worthy of making the Fed Reserve banks very rich. That's the plan.

COP is still a bargain at 1500. Why was it there 2 months ago? How did the Colombian Central bank intervene at that point?

The US slowdown has been in effect for a few years. During those years the Colombian economy has been on the upswing. I have always said the US slowdown doesn't hurt the Colombian economy because 70% of Colombian exports to the US are the non cyclical comodities: coffee, bananas and coal. Flowers took a hit but are still being exported.

Am I missing some econoimic numbers?
