Violence surges near Arizona Border
"The invasion of Cananea – a town that helped spark the 1910 Mexican Revolution when U.S. forces crossed the border to help put down a miners' strike – showed the brashness and power of Mexico's ruthless organized crime gangs.
An armed command first abducted a police patrol, then went out on the streets of Cananea ... abducting policemen," Garcia Luna told reporters. "It is a group linked to the Gulf cartel, waging a turf battle with the Pacific people, for control of this territory.''"
I think this type of Fourth Generation Warfare, like Colombia's, could cross over the US border not long from now especially as the population grows and US cracks down on immigrants.
"...a fourth generation war is most successful when the non-state entity does not attempt, at least in the short term, to impose its own rule, but tries simply to disorganize and delegitimize the state in which the warfare takes place. The aim is to force the state adversary to expend manpower and money in an attempt to establish order, ideally in such a highhanded way that it merely increases disorder, until the state surrenders or withdraws."
There are few examples of the state being effective in a 4GW conflict. The only major example is that of the British Army in North Ireland after the events of Bloody Sunday."
