My Colombian gf's birthday is next week. She likes 3 leches cake. In my area, there are no Colombian pastelerias, but there is a Mexican and a Cuban one. Does it make a difference?

Gator says on Nov 3, 2005, 07:26: Really A Central American... original. Lots of supermarkets in Florida sell it as do panaderias/markets in Colombia. Never heard of the choice of various fruit toppings in the original. Not very hard to make at home. While were were making the apartmento hunt in Santa Marta I had a chocolate tres leche that was dynamite-better than in Nicaragua or Costa Rica. The keys is the cake not the topping. The cake must be porous enough to absorb the liquid. Example-pound cake won't do-it is too dense and the topping just runs off without going into the cake itself..
