I'll be there Friday for 9 days and could check it out. Where's it located?

Chelesupercono says on Aug 21, 2007, 16:56:

Does that mean 24 hr asshole vendors????? The beaches suck in Cartagena for that reason.....

never go to bed with someone crazier then you are, you will do it and you will regret it.......

pedro says on Sep 9, 2007, 17:58:

Morph, this bar is on the Crespo side of the city. I'm told it's right alongside the Hotel Las Americas.

The name is Kubita (or Cubita) sp? With the accent on the last syllable like in Bogotá. The after-party crowd is from about 5am until 9am or so.

Can't give you a first hand report yet... if I make it there I will give you a better picture.

que nota!

Yes, and for a couple of more important reasons, like black sand, dirty water, too many buildings, etc.

Where is the black sand?

elmodefoque says on Sep 10, 2007, 05:24:

black sand is in the pacific side.
I'm taking my ass to that bar the minute i get there.

pedro, miguel, and tone, that sounds like a great place to go during carnaval. Lets have our annual PBH get together there!

Why is Cartagena's water so dirty? Is it because they don't treat their wastewater or because they don't pump it far enough off shore?

elmodefoque says on Sep 10, 2007, 06:07:

come on, that water is just fine. i've swallowed water from the beaches in cartagena going back to the late 50's, look at me, in perfect health.
And i've also swallow water from the hudson river back in the early 60's with the swer flushin millions of gallon of human crap just a couple blocks up stream. Look at me, perfect health
human waste, it does a body good

tomtom33 says on Sep 10, 2007, 09:35:

The water really isn't that dirty. If you go up in a high rise, you will see that the water is clear 50 to 100 yards off the beach. It is the wave action that stirs up particulates in the sand.

Mr. Hollywood says on Sep 10, 2007, 09:56:

Clear and clean are really two different things.

The water in Cartagena is totally septic because of the lack of good sanitation infrastructure. There's a huge amount of untreated human crap and industrial waste floating around out there.

Tinto (Moderator) says on Sep 10, 2007, 10:12:

So, Elmo, how are the beaches in the world's 2nd greatest city?

You probably taught them Injuns about the importance of treating sewage and you probably have a sedimentation tank named after you, but doesn't the Magdalena also empty somewhere near your fine metropolis?

robi666 says on Sep 10, 2007, 10:12:

Come on, Tom.
First, the sand is not clear. Maybe is not black but far from white.
Second, how many days in a year can you see clear water? Clear or not, because of the sand, the water is far from being blue.
El Rodadero is 100 times better (talking about tropical features of beaches) than Bocagrande.
And beaches at Tayrona are 100 times better than Baru or Islas del Rosario.

Puerto Colombia = Bocagrande

Pedro, thanks for the update.

Elmo, how about La Dolce Vita 11pm-3am, Giro Mato 3am-6am amd them the beach bar 6am-9am? I think we'll drop :)

tomtom33 says on Sep 10, 2007, 14:38:

Robi, I never said that the Bocagrande beaches were even desirable. And I never said that they were better than anything. I did say or imply that the sand is not black and that the water looks cloudy because of the wave action. I have always been able to see clear water from my 9th floor apartment.

I am no sanitation engineer, but I do believe that a metropolitan area of over 1 million with 75% living in estrato 1 is not very clean. All of that not very clean washes into the ocean.

Morph, I'll catch up around 9 am for breakfast.

Dirty beaches, Ass hole vendedores, why would anyone want to hang out in Cartagena??? Stay away. Leave some room for me.......
Remember, we're all in this together.
