2 Years Later .. We finally Made it!

Thanks to all of the great PBH folks who have helped over the last few years. I was married to the most wonderful woman in the world, in Colombia on Jun 16, 2006 .. and we have Finally (after many lost documents) gotten our notice of an appointment at the embassy in Bogota.

She will be here on the 23rd of August and it will be the happiest day of my life. Again thanks to all of you ... and best of luck to those travelling the same road.

Enjoy!!

I think that if you know your girl and you honestly believe that she is the right one for you than you dont have anything to be afraid of. If she is going to leave you as soon as she gets to the states? ohh well at least you gave you best in the relationship and tried something too many people are afraid on doing. It is true that the mayority of colombianas that I have know leave their Husband after the two years, but not all Colombianas are the same and you may had found the exception. Good luck

In my case, I am going to marry an american who is going to move to Bogota with me. And he is not rich. In fact I will support him economically while he gets a job here. I am sure there are many good women in Colombia. Good luck.

Yes some of them are just desperate with kids and have little chance of getting married in Colombia. These are different than the ones that just want the visa. Let's keep that straight. But remember one thing these two have in common - neither of them would give you the time of day if they were well off financially and weren't struggling to feed the kids.

All you guys with the mail order internet brides - stick you and the wife in a time machine to the time before she had her first kid but the year is still 2008. Does she immediately decide upon exiting the time machine to entertain propositions from foreign men (internet or live) in order to marry and move to another country away from her family to a guy who doesn't speak her language and share her culture? if yes then howabout if she magically gets a high paying job and her family bumps into estrato 5?

lets give the colombian ladies their true, due....they are a marvelous, incredible lot. i'm not speaking of the well to do and the city slickers and the bar flies and sex pots. i'm talking about the woman who nurse and nurture colombia as she is. the real women who raise the children, keep the homes, suffer in hard times and keep their chin up and their honor higher.

colombia is the heart land of fine, honorable women. just because a woman marries a foreigner with other than deep heart felt emotions...especially when she already has children. does it make her 'low' or 'less' or 'cheap' because she compromises herself in some measure to provide for her children from someone who didn'[t. is she a sell out because she puts others before herself. even if she uses her fortune to help her family? try and be fair when we 'judge' these people. so many have live lives harder than any of us can remotely imagine.

honoring them and respecting them is the nourishment they need. give it to them. they have earned it. and you will surely discover in the majority of cases, you will be repaid thousand fold.

The women of Colombia run the country - it's just really tough when they are living abroad.

Nothing wrong with these women nor the marriage - this woman however is not my type - but there is nothing wrong with her that's for sure. Let's just call a spade a spade - the woman is settling and sacrificing and going with a choice she would not be making had things been different financially.

If you are a man out there in a relationship and you hit the lottery for 40 million clear and you trade in your honey for a better 'model' (pun intended) than you are the same.

For the woman I'm with and who is with me, financial ruin or giant windfall changes little for each of us. We are together by choice - first choice - not out of necessity. JMHO

clearly understand your point....i just like to see those who make sacrifices in their lives for the benifit of others recieve some measure of respect...not ridicule. granted, some abuse their choices. of course they do. but we should keep the real numbers in perspective.

if the woman had other financial options she would undoubtedly exercise them. however if she's willing to devote herself into a relationship for the benefit of others (as well herself) this does not disqualify her as an honorable person...only she can do that.

Douglas, why give credit to only those who were put in a less privileged position? I believe every women out there has a soft spot for being loved and feeling protected. City slickers and bar flies are only more demanding and not in a particularly negative way... Why would anyone date somebody because they know they are needed rather than wanted? As Roci put it, often a poor woman or a single mother with very little disposable income will reach out for a gringo out of pure need or greed...that is a very fine line.

I am not a man, so I cannot claim to know all the answers when it comes to the male mind (which some claim is actually quite binary and simple), but if I could change my sex for a second and choose a woman with the intention of spending the rest of my life with her (that is if people these days tie the knot hoping it'll be forever), I'd choose the city slicker over the "real woman" in a heartbeat. First of all because I want to be wanted as a person, not as an expense account. Second, because men are weak creatures as well, why would I waste my time with someone I have to support economically, wait until she learns a new language and deal with her frustrations? and what if she struggles with the whole adapting thing all the freaking time? What about my needs as a man? what about me feeling frustrated? Having a rough patch? trust me, a girl who is not used to being out there will have TONS of more trouble adapting to any environment that is not her own than an urban, professional woman and if she has kids, you will certainly not be her priority. So why bother?

point well taken, CK...i made the point for good reason....not that i in anyway exclude the mentioned from the women in need of serious, honest respect and support.

the rich, have their own safety and after 19 years in colombia, it has consistantly been my experience that they isolate and alienate themselves fromt the realities so many, many colombian women address. as for my rather scurolous comments labeling women sex-pots and bar flies. again, these sad ladies have made choices which put them at risk/prey to a life which shows little hope of redemption. we can all walk with others, we cannot walk for them.

personally, i extend a compassionate arm, heart to all.

CK - Your response is what a man would do if he had the brain of a woman. I think your questions are what every guy should be asking himself before getting involved. I'm sure we all could add to your list. Good job!

Bottom line is that the guy would have to be EXTREMELY patient, understanding (put yourself in her shoes), and self-sacrificing in order to make this work.

I guess it depends on how it's being defined. anyways I don't want another 'tool for the shed' sort of speak. why would I get married then?
