kat1 (Moderator) says on Apr 4, 2008, 15:25: this can be counter-productive, many can say they are guerrilleros when really they are just from the common delinquency and also it can bring more kidnappings to released the hostages afterwards and then said they are "deserters" how can we guaranteed that they are not going to go back to the jungle.

bamacellist says on Apr 4, 2008, 15:37: I have heard this argument and it has a lot of validity. Anything like this, even the simple integration program could be abused, but that may not be reason to do nothing :) For kidnappings the validity of the claims will be pretty clear in a strong majority of cases. I also suspect the government isn't so concerned about paying a few fraudulent claims if many guerillas desert and bring hostages with them. I think part of the hope is that it will erode the will of the common Farc soldier as they see people quitting and wonder if maybe they should, too.
