for a short term furnished apartment including utilities and internet/tv, that's a good price.

leave your electric stove on over night and see your power bill at the end of the month or leave the water running or talk all day on the phone with long distance...... dam utilities could be another 1,000,000...no crazy landlord would do utilities included other than unlimited internet

durito, no problem including utlities if you allow for the people who leave taps running etc.

I would block the phone only to make local phone calls, also take a months deposit, you can write into any deal, you allow X amount for the utlity bills, anything above that will be taken out of their deposit.

For furnished in Poblado, sounds like a decent deal despite no washing machine. How many full baths, and what part of Poblado?

Would you consider anything more short term? Thinking of doing a 10 day in MDE in Jan. or Feb. and could offer 2/3 of the monthly amount for 10 days.

Does 'warm water' mean no hot water?

Vicshere, matter of fact it is pretty common to have utilities included, speaking for the housing I looked at.

This was in Cartagena, unfurnished places and I'm not talking about Bocagrande peninsula. Included in the price were water, electricity and gas. Telephone and internet was separate and all to be handled by the renter.

1 million a month for no-contract no-cedula furnished and in Poblado is decent. You can maybe get slightly better prices if you do the whole co-signer, fingerprints, 1 year contract deal. Like maybe 10 to 20% better.

I remember Panthdave posted about an apartment search with his paisa girlfriend. They are careful with their money, and I think they were paying 780k in Poblado on a long-term contract. Add on 200k for utilities and you get 1 million.

Most people realise it makes sense to take a short term furnished deal for the first couple of months. At 30k per day pro-rata, you step into a place that's already functional, low commitment, and better than any hotel you could find for that price. People like vicshere may bitch about the 10% to 20% premium over a long-term rental, but this is the real world and the landlord is taking a risk too with their furnishings etc.

In those first few months of renting short-term, you can get your paperwork sorted out, confirm you want to make a permanent commitment to living in Colombia, find the perfect place to buy or rent long term, organise furniture, get the utilities connected etc. Or what does vicshere suggest as a better alternative?

que nota!

it is a good deal with or without the servicios included at $500 per month.

* there are no true 'full baths' for most of these apartments as most are under 1000 sq ft. the bathrooms are just big enough to take of the business they are intended for.
