1st time to Colombia...what do I need to do?

Hello Everybody!
This site is great and people are so helpful. I'm sure some of you will be able to help me. I will be vacationing in Colombia in June, which is a ways off, but currently work in Afghanistan so I don't have access to any consulate to do a visa. My question is, I believe you can get visas in some countries right in the airport as you arrive, or is this not correct? Do I need to go to a consulate before I even travel? I have a passport already, but don't know what else i need. Any advice or help in regards to this and anything else for a first time traveler would greatly be appreciated. Thanks, Paul

don't wory about it. as ariana has no service from kabul to bogota yet, you will not need any visa to enter colombia as a tourist arriving on any other airline.
also, as farsi is not widely understood in colombia, speak spanish.

kabul is brown and grey and dry and bright.
bogota is grey and green and wet and gloomy.
medellin is green and brown and cool and bright.
cartagena is ochre and blue and hot and sweaty.
san andres and providence is psychedelic paradise.
..with tiger sharks.

If you have a US passport, you can stay up to 180 days per year. If you want to spend more time, you will need to get a VISA.

So basically, it depends on your nationality. If you're a US citizen, you can just show up in Colombia and they'll let you enter for anything between 30 and 90 days (ask for 90 and you probably get it), no trip to the consulate required.

Poor but snappy

90 I asked for 90 in CTG in Jan. of 2004. I was told, "No." That really rather sucked as I was staying 87 days.

Expect the unexpected in Colombia.
