12 voip to call usa for free

Greg Yohn gave me a great way to make free phone calls to the usa from colombia. The connection seemed to be good. Unfortunately, free calls are very limited. I was able to get 2 calls in before my free limit expired and it asked me to buy credit.

So greg...how do you get around that? The 2 calls for free is nice but you´re a little misleading saying that you always make free calls. Unless I´m missing something.

I was able to get close to 5 min. of free call time (approximately). During my 2nd call I was disconnected and I couldn´t reconnect for some reason. During my third call I was disconnected after 10 seconds with a message that my free time had expired.

I´m not sure what the prices are with 12 voip but I would prefer to use skype since it´s easier and skype has never disconnected me so far.

Magic Jack is one of the best ones and cheap. it costs about $40 Dlls to buy it and it comes with 1 year service, no monthly charges, just renew at $19.95 every year. Just bought one and registered in CA and sent it to Medellin and works great.

azunoman is that limited for any number or with only a specific number or numbers? Does it work the other way too? US to colombia?

I didn´t know yahoo messenger had phone service. That could be another option.

I´m hoping that greg yohn will chime in on his secrets for 12 voip.

Are you sure yahoo offers 1 cent/min calls to Colombian mobile phones? Yahoo messenger's website says it's 10 cents/min

Thanks for that explanation viajero. Do you happen to know how many minutes you get for free? Ballpark? What is top up? 10 bucks?

I guess I don´t quite understand how it works. It says unlimited free calls, just download and start calling. I tried that but then it very quickly asked me to start paying. So how do I get unlimited free calls?

Ok, I just found the instruction page. I get it now.

Buy credit and get 3 months free to certain destinations. After 3 months use up credit then buy more credit and get another 3 months free. Sounds pretty good.

colombia and the u.s. are among free destinations.

Really tired of Greg Yohn's consistent postings about 12Voip etc. He must work for them or get a commission. Do a search on how many times he's posted on this.

Here is the best solution IMHO for calling Colombia (landlines), unlimited, from your landline in the US (I hate being tethered to a computer).

Open a Skype account (free).
Subscribe to the $5/month for the Colombia Country Plan.
Setup a Skype to go number (free with your subscription).
Setup speeddials on your Skype to go number (press 1 to reach x, press 2 to reach someone else, etc.

Now, you can dial the US Skype to Go number from any telephone, press 1, and you are connected to Colombia.
I use this everyday, for hours.
Flat rate. Unlimited. Can call from a landline. So far, great clarity.

..further to the previous post.. to call the other way (Colombia to USA) .. in a free or unlimited fashion.. the options are less flexibile. IMHO the 2 best options are Skype and Vonage.

If you want to call from your computer, then Skype ($2.99 / month, unlimited to any US landline or cellphone) has good clarity. Unfortunately they don't offer Skype to Go numbers in CO, so you will have to call from your computer. If you do that, get a usb telephone to plug into your computer.

More expensive will be Vonage, ($25/month, unlimited to any US landline or cellphone) but it's more flexible because you don't have to have your computer on - you just plug a telephone into your Vonage box.

In the end, call quality CO-USA will depend a lot on your internet connection.

Yep, I started the post. I wanted to get some clarification on this 12 voip. I didn´t understand that you had to pay to get the free stuff. But I guess that makes sense.

Thanks for the clarification.

I use www.voipbuster.com, similar to 12voip. just buy some credit ( I buy 10 euro, 12.50 with tax, about COP 40000) with this you get 120 days where you can call landlines in certain countries free, (see their homepage) these include Ireland, Spain and the US so that's as much as I need.

I have Skype too but the quality is never as good as voipbuster. also voipbuster is suitable for people who still only use landlines

I live in Medellin, but maintain a US (Skype) phone number. The annual renewal for the number is $60 USD. I am switching to magic jack.
