12 killed in MDE a couple of days ago?

I was told by a friend that 12 people were murdered in MDE 3 days ago. I didn't see mention of this anywhere, however this source (GFs mother) is very reliable. Did anyone else here about this?

Medellin is ''biggish'' so would no be surprised at all if its random single events - or do you mean 12 people in a single event?

This is hardly a big deal. several years ago 20 people were being murdered in Medellin every day.. now the average is around 2 a day which anyone who has taken statistics 101 could tell you will translate into many days with no murders and some days with 10 or 12 murders a day. the above murders were separate events or several separate events at least

"one can get murdered just for walking on the street after a certain hour of the night, usually after 10:00 pm"

sigh....and we wonder why people continue to have such fear of Colombia. These types of comments being thrown around by people who claim knowledge of Colombia and ever advertise it in their own websites?????? Well, at least this will keep COL from becoming another Costa Rica anytime soon!

The "lovemedellin website" is a piece of crap made by some moron who has only been to Medellin once...you'd be better off reading the Lonely Planet advice from a guy who never even came here!

The only thing I heard was that the hospitals were full - a flu epidemic. Please note, this was by word of mouth from a person physically in Medellin. I did not read anything news worthy. I think he commented on deaths (not 100% sure).

I wouldn't want to stroll around certain areas of Miami after 10:00 pm or even during the day. But there are areas in Medellín that I just never visit.

It probably was on the local news... today an article in Semana Magazine talks about 12 murders in two days last week. It still comes off as fearmongering talk about the return of so-called bad times: ".. ¿Vuelve la horrible noche? Los recientes asesinatos hacen temer que se acabe la paz relativa que había logrado Medellín (...) Entre el lunes y martes hubo 15 asesinatos, la mayoría ocurridos en los municipios del área metropolitana, una cifra que no se veía desde hace un lustro .." The complete article (in Spanish) is on the website of Semana Magazine, see: http://www.semana.com/wf_InfoArticulo.aspx?idArt=112678

She was probably talking about the landslide where 10 or so people were killed (not murdered).

It reads like it is largely between warring drug factions, domestic violence and crimes of passion. Although homocides are up 12% over last year. Police chief is forming a brigade to address the issue.
It is also largely confined to the Eastern and Northern Barrios
